Nashua is a town in New Hampshire, United States. The population was 9,822 at the 2010 census. Nashua is the second largest town in New Hampshire and the sixth largest city in NH. Nashua is located on the border of Hillsborough and Manchester Counties and it has a rich history dating back to 1692 when Captain John Smith founded Nashua on land he purchased from Native Americans. The town grew rapidly after World War II as businesses moved into the area fromBoston, Massachusetts. Today, Nashua is one of the most diverse towns in New England with a large percentage of its population being Hispanic or Latino. The center of town occupies an area that once served as an Indian village known as Pemaquidaca meaning "the Place Where Foxes Roam." In 1692, Captain John Smith founded Nashua on land he purchased from the Wampanoag people near present-day Manchester. Smith named his settlement after Sir Nicholas Bacon, 1st Baronet (1625-1693), who had helped him purchase some land in England for himself and his family during their travels thereabouts in 1680-81. At first, only men could reside permanently within Nashuatown; this gradually changed over time to allow women to live among them too. In 1764, when Methuen became governor of New Hampshire and ordered all towns except Canandaigua to offer free taxes to him instead of paying Ferryport's poll tax each year, Nashuaners responded by electing James president pro tempore (a position which would be held by Samuel Adams until 1795). By 1800, however, nearly 60 percent of Nashuaners living within the limits of present-day Nashua were Abenakis or Dutch immigrants who had arrived since 1768 following British military campaigns against Native American tribes throughout North America east of Quebec City. Some earlier immigrants included Englishmen who had come overland along what is now Route 2 southward from Boston between 1740 and 1745; these men built homes along Main Street today’s Courthouse Square while they awaited passage through customs at Trenton (now Princeton). Captain John Smith's original home still stands today on Courthouse Square just north of where Route 2 turns east into exit 5 off Interstate 95 heading southbound towards Lebanon Valley Regional High School

Nashua, New Hampshire is a town in Granite County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 5,362 at the 2010 census. Nashua is the second-largest town in Granite County after Manchester. It lies on the Nashua River and is bordered by the towns of Wolfeboro to the east, Durham to the north, Dover to the west and Lebanon to the south. Nashua's main thoroughfare is Route 9W which connects it with Wolfeboro and Dover. The first settlers in what would become Nashua were three men from Hartford, Connecticut who arrived in 1795. They named their new settlement "Nashuate", after General George Washington's home district of Virginia Township in that state. The first post office was established in 1801, and became known as "Nashuate". In 1814 – when Granite County was created – Nashuate joined it as one of its fourteen townships within its present boundaries. In 1825 NH became a state of New Hampshire; Nashuate remained an unincorporated part of that state until 1828 when it became a part of Granite County under New Hampshire law as well as being included withinits present borders. In 1912 NH amended its Constitution to provide for township status within county government; this change followed similar ones throughout most of rural NH where village status had been abolished by actuary order passed during Republican Govt through amendment (See below). After years of debate over whether or not to annex adjacent townships into Nashuate due to zoning laws/planning regulations which favored larger settlements over smaller ones (euphemistically called "township annexation"), on February 16th 1915 local representatives voted unanimously (1-0) in favor of annexing two neighboring towns - Amherst and Enfield - making NASHUA THE FIRST AND ONLY TOWNHOUSES TO Annex UNDER NEW HAMPTON COUNTY ZONING REGULATIONS! During Prohibition years (1920-1933), much alcohol was produced and shipped from townships such as Amherst and Enfield into other parts of NH; however NASHUA never saw any prohibition enforcement action taken against these communities since they were operating pursuant to their own zoning ordinances which did not violate federal law prohibiting liquor sales at night while driving or while using any public transportation including buses or trains transporting passengers between points outside their municipality limits! Although some people believe that this lackadaisical attitude towards prohibition may have been thanks mostly to political correctness/the perception that “natives” could not be expected to enforce such laws given their traditional lifestyle(s), today NASHUA welcomes all visitors regardlessof belief system! NATIONAL HIGHWAY 9W traverses much of eastern Nashua center & border area w/Wolfeboro so there’s plenty OF SHOPPING & DINING options nearby if you want something specific–but avoid trying anything illegal like dealing drugs—New Hampshire has some really strict penalties for doing so!
