The Marine Corps Deployment Gift History in Nashua, New Hampshire began with the establishment of Camp Drum in 1892. The Marines first arrived in the town to help celebrate the centennial of NH’s incorporation as a state. In 1912, Camp Drum was moved to Nashua and became Marine Barracks #1. From here, Marines gave back to their community by hosting annual picnics and other civic events. The tradition continued until 1945 when Marine Barracks #2 was closed due to World War II troop shortages. In 1946, Camp Drum reopened as Marine Barracks #3 and again played host to many local Events. In 1978, Naval Base Portsmouth opened up adjacent to Marine Barracks #3 and it became known as Naval Station Nashua (NBAN). As NBAN grew more important within the Navy it also acquired its own attached buildings which housed both enlisted personnel and their families. These structures remain today as part of NAS Nashua’s history as one of America’s largest military installations. Today, NAS Nashua is an active duty naval base providing housing for Sailors and Marines from all over America while stillserving as a popular tourist destination for locals and visitors alike. It has been through many changes but has always maintained its traditions of giving back to its community and celebrating holidays together with its marines!

Nashua is home to an agricultural center and a number of manufacturing businesses as well as many public services. It is also a hub for cultural activity with several theaters and museums in operation. Nashua has been called "The Granite City" for its strong granite industry which continues to be a major force in the community.
From the time of its inception in World War II, the United States Marine Corps was a highly specialized force. With upwards of 1 million men and women serving in all branches of service, Marines were often deployed to theaters far from home. This deployment history is reflective of the capabilities and strengths of the Marine Corps as a whole. The Marine Corps was activated on April 20, 1915 by President Woodrow Wilson as an infantry regiment equipped with artillery and machineguns. The first units to fight in World War I were organized into battalions at Camp Butler, Illinois. The Marines first saw action during the Spanish-American War on April 6th, 1898 when they participated in the Battle for Santiago de Cuba. After World War I ended, Congress passed Bullitt-Herndon Act which provided for independent commands within Department of Navy for amphibious warfare purposes only. The Marine Corps was reorganized under these new regulations on December 14th, 1919 as part of newly created National Guard Bureau with Headquarters at Washington Navy Yard. On July 15th 1924 Commandant General Order No. 2 called for expansion and reorganization of Naval Marine Force including creation of First Marine Division at Quantico Virginia Beach barracks with jurisdiction over all commissioned officers and enlisted men employed therein other than Marines detailed to active duty or mobilized for war or national emergency situations ashore (this order did not include naval aviation). By 1932 there were 10 Divisions subordinate to Fleet Admiral Nimitz who directed allMarine Forces operations afloat world wide COMANDANT GENERAL ORDERS NOVEMBER 9 1932 Thereafter until 1933 it functioned more like an army battalion sized organization with battalion commanders reporting directly to Major General Alexander Vandenberg who controlled strategic planning both ashore and afloat . However commandant general orders continued to be issued setting forth specific operational instructions for each brigade or squadron commanding officer responsible for their assigned area no matter how small their unit might be . In 1935 a detachment known as "Marine Detachment Three" landed at Brest Litovskik airfield Russia after Nazi Germany had invaded Poland From 1937 through 1945 there was only one major general commanding each marine corps division + 1 lieutenant colonel commanding brigades/squadrons while commandant generals took retirement or died leaving control over battalions/squadrons completely vested in major general commanding individual divisions+1 lieutenant colonel attached thereto but without operational authority
