The Coast Guard Station Alamogordo in New Mexico was established on September 10, 1924. The station's first commanding officer was Captain George P. Robertson. Initially the Coast Guard operated out of a small building on the waterfront. In 1951, the station moved to its current location on US-101 between Jester and Casa Grande. In 1962, the base opened a hospital which has been used for both military and civilian patients ever since. Today, the Coast Guard Station Alamogordo provides service to both local and federal agencies as well as providing education and training opportunities for local children. In 1941, the command became the Alamo Provincial District and in 1951 it became the Alamo Division." In 1975, The Alamo Division merged with the Laughlin Border Patrol Command to form one unified command.

Since then, downtown has undergone several renovations including new shopping malls and restaurants that cater to different demographics such as Hispanics/Latinos and young adults living near campus. Today, Alamogordo remains an important cultural center for Native Americans within reach of urbanites due to its diverse history, vibrant economy and expanding educational opportunities

Alamogordo has seen many changes over its history but has always been an important part of New Mexico's culture and economy. Today, it remains a vibrant community with active businesses and a growing population who continue to make their mark on this unique corner of northeastern New Mexico
