Artesia is a small town in New Mexico, located on the banks of the Rio Grande. The population was 7,099 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Albuquerque-Municipality. The roots of Artesia can be traced back to 1834 when José Ibarra and his family founded a post office in what is now Artesia. In 1870, Fernando Ortiz donated land to make way for a school in Artesia. In 1896, construction began on the current courthouse, which was completed in 1902. In 1916, Artesia became an incorporated municipality and adopted its present name from its founder, José Ibarra Sr., who had named it after himself as an honorific for his father's great accomplishment as mayor of Santa Fe during that time. During World War II, Artesia played host to several military airfields used by the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). One such airfield was Alamogordo Army Air Field (AAF), which served as home to Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighter aircraft during 1944-1945. After the war ended, many businesses were acquired or vacated by departing GI's and new industry sprung up near downtown – including power generation and light manufacturing – while downtown slowly gentrified over time becoming more commercialized with higher housing prices and better access to amenities within walking distance. Today much of what once made up downtown has been replaced by high-rise buildings or other buildings designed for office use - creating a primarily residential area along Broadway Street across from The University Of New Mexico making it one of only two areas in town with significant commercial development outside of Downtown ArtsESIA remains a vibrant community with historic landmarks scattered throughout its boundaries

Today, marines continue to play a vital role in our society by providing security at home and abroad. They are an essential element of our fabric as a country and I am proud to have them as part of my team.

In 1540, a group of Spanish soldiers led by Hernando de Soto reached Texas and found a route across Mexico that would lead them to New Mexico. Soto’s expedition was one of the most successful ever made and soon he had realized that this vast country could be used as part of his empire. He set about exploring the area and founded various towns and villages along the way. One such town was Artesia, which he named after his home mountain Artesia. It soon became a important trading post because it had access to supplies coming from all over North America. The towns built around Artesia grew into large cities during the 1800s thanks to their importance as regional centers for trade and transportation. The growth of these cities led to increased wealth and prosperity for local residents, who enjoyed high levels of education and social mobility. Throughout its history, Artesia has been an important cultural center with a significant impact on American life both nationally and internationally.
The first European settlement in what is now Artesia, New Mexico was started by the Spanish in 1610. The town was originally named San Marcos and was located on the east bank of the Rio Grande. The town was renamed Artesia after General Francisco de Asís, who led a military expedition to Tonkin in 1819.
