The Albuquerque-Las Cruces Air Force Base is one of the largest in the United States and home to one of the most powerful fighter aircraft in the world, The F-15 Eagle. However, immigration into Las Cruces also played a role in its growth: during World War II more than 1 million Japanese Americans were interned here becauseof wartime hysteria over Japanese military activities in America.
