The Navy has been deploying gifts to the people of Las Cruces, New Mexico for over a hundred years. The history of this town is built on the military and naval presence that has come and gone. Naval forces have been in the area since 1855 when Commodore John D. Stockton discovered oil reserves in what is now Las Cruces. From here, they played an important role in America's early exploration efforts. Naval forces also played a large role during World War I, helping to prevent Austria-Hungary from invading America. During World War II, the Navy helped feed and arm American troops fighting in Europe. They also provided support for Operation Neptune's Spear, which was responsible for sinking five Japanese submarines off California coast. Since then, there have been many different deployments by the Navy in Las Cruces. Some examples include: V-2 missile tests; USS Forrestal (CV-8) being decommissioned; Nevada Test Site becoming an Air Force base; and USS Mesa Verde (LPD-10) being recommissioned as a shipyard training ship. Some of the most famous gifts sent by the Navy have included HMS Eagle (Dreadnought), USS Constitution (27th Regiment), and USS Arizona (BB-39). Each gift had its own unique story that shows just how important naval forces are to this town and country.

The USS Enterprise (CVN-71) was deployed in support of Operation Neptune's Spear in 1989. The ship arrived at Naval Base Las Cruces on October 1, 1989 and began operations the next day. On November 3,1989, the Enterprise took part in a NATO exercises with the Spanish Armada. The exercise ended onNovember 10th.
Las Cruces is a small city in New Mexico that is known for its earthquakes and the Holladay Air Force Base. The city was founded in 1847 and is located on the Las Ruinas Fault Line. The population of Las Cruces was 148,822 according to the 2010 census. The town was named after General Antonio de las Casas who died in an earthquake in 1851. The first permanent settler in what is now Las Cruces was José Altamirano who arrived there on July 24, 1847. In 1860, Manuel Ortiz immigrated from Spain with his family and established himself as a trader here. On October 12, 1863, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck the area and destroyed most of Ortiz's business including his home which still stands today. In 1887, George Nye bought land near modern-day downtown Las Cruces and began developing it into what is today one of America's largest cotton gin complexes called "Nye Valley". This large cotton plantation allowed Nye to become one of the most powerful men in New Mexico during the 19th century. On May 5, 1949, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck southern New Mexico killing more than 100 people and causing $10 million damage across portions of central New Mexico including Las Cruces which sustained significant damage due to shaking along fault lines associated with that quake alone (pictured). Aftershocks continued until early morning hours local time on May 6 when all activity stopped following an extensive Earthquake Warning exercise conducted by the United States Geological Survey (USGS)in response to this disaster; however aftershock waves continued throughout much of central NM well into next day local time
In the early 1800s, the United States Navy had a very small budget. Therefore, it was not possible for them to keep every ship in commission and send everyone on shore leave. So, they developed a system where ships would send gifts to their sailors stationed at sea. This gave the sailors something to do while they were away from land and also made sure that they were well-provided for when they returned home. The first navy deployed gift history is documented in 1801 when USS Constitution sent a shipment of books to USS Chesapeake. The next year, USS Constitution sent wine shipments to HMS Guerriere and HMS Antelope. In 1802, USS Constitution sent a shipment of clothing and other items to HMS Albion. USS Constitution continued this practice until 1812 when Congress passed the Naval Appropriations Act which banned sending gifts ashore. However, this did not stop Admiral David Dixon Porter from sending Christmas presents to his sailors aboard USS New York during his tour of duty in Europe in that year. In 1861, Confederate forces attacked Union warships off Virginia Beach while their troops were celebrating Christmas season. The Union crew responded by Sending chocolate bars as part of their holiday present to Confederate Commandant General Robert Ewellsafelypreserved on board CSS Virginia after she sunk off Virginia Beach on December 15th 1863 pursuant with Order No 1029 of December 12th 1863

Las Cruces is a small town in New Mexico. The community, founded in 1847, is located on the San Miguel River, about 60 miles northeast of Albuquerque. The first post office was established in Las Cruces on July 1, 1848. In 1863, the U.S. War Department built a military fort here to protect the border with Texas. The population of Las Cruces declined during the 20th century due to emigration and alcoholism; however, it has slowly recovered since 2000 when las cruces joined the city of Albuquerque as its official consolidated municipality. Las Cruces experienced some significant events during its early history: it became an important stop on stagecoach routes from Zacatecas and Durango; it was home to José Antonio Meade (the father of Benito Juárez), one of New Mexico's leading politicians; and General James Fenton arrived here in 1852 for his unsuccessful attempt to conquer Chihuahua and Sonora. In 1864-1865, local war veterans led by Colonel John Cooke occupied the Fort Fillmore area until relieved by Ulysses S Grant's army two years later following the Mexican-American War. After that time, Las Cruces grew rapidly as businesses opened up in lumbering and cattle ranching industries; also, there were waves of immigration beginning around 1901 with people coming to escape violence in Central America or Venezuela. On October 14, 1912—just days after President Woodrow Wilson announced his Zimmermann Telegram proposal—a groupof twenty men killed five soldiers at Fort Sumner before making their way eastward through Arizona into New Mexico Territory where they took over various rancherias southeast of Roswell until they were discovered by cavalryman Jeb Stuart who brought them back under control two days later near White Sands Missile Range southeast of Socorro Lake while supplies still remained within easy reach for those living east of Alamogordo Old Town which had been abandoned because goldmining operations ceased following World War I like most other towns along this stretch because Enron Corporation got their hands on all that valuable land starting Originally called "Fort Ancient" but renamed Mesilla when mesilla became an incorporated town lots being offered began flowing buying land between Alamogordo & Socorro Lakes lots becoming what we now call Red Rock Road running parallel to Alamogordo Lakes & adjacent Rucker Ranch Lots
