Tactical coffee beans have been grown and enjoyed in Babylon, New York for over a hundred years. The first mention of coffee being brewed in the city dates back to 1892. In that year, an Italian immigrant named Antonio Giannini opened a small café called La Caffetteria on Constitution Avenue. Originally serving just espresso and coffee, Giannini soon began to make tea as well. His customers were primarily military personnel and their families who would come into the café during lunchtime for a quick cup of Joe. The popularity of tactical coffee quickly spread throughout the city. By 1916, La Caffeteria had become one of the most popular cafes in Babylon. It was here that General John J Pershing stopped by for his morning caffeine fix before departing to fight in World War I. Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, La Caffeteria continued to be open until it was forced out of business by economic conditions. However, its legacy will always be remembered for its iconic cafe sign which has been hanging from its roof ever since. The sign read “Caffè Nero” or “black coffee” which refers to the dark roast beans used at La Caffeteria. In 2007, Babylon Coffee announced plans to reopen the cafe under new management with new ownership and menu options designed specifically for military Personnel and their Families members stationed around town! Military fans will be able to enjoy all-day breakfast items like pancakes or eggs benedict as well as sandwiches and salads made with tactical coffee products!
