The New York Navy Yard is home to the United States Naval Forces Europe, which includes the Fifth Fleet. The Fifth Fleet was formed in 1951 and currently resides in Naples, Italy. The 5th Fleet is made up of over 45 ships that are capable of carrying out a wide range of missions. Some of these ships include amphibious warfare vessels, destroyers, submarines, and supply vessels. In 2009, one of the Fifth Fleet's warships became the first American warship to be deployed to NATO's European Command. This ship was called USS George H.W. Bush and it served as an amphibious assault ship for Operation Allied Force which included U.S./UK forces landing inOperation Neptune’s Spear on Sicily . Additionally, another warship from the Fifth Fleet became available for deployment to NATO's Baltic Sea Task Force in 2014 when USS John F Kennedy joined the fleet after being decommissioned at Charleston Naval Shipyard following its service during Operation Neptune’s Spear

Beacon is a small town in the Adirondacks of New York. The population was 1,887 at the 2000 census, but has grown to 2,362 as of 2010. Beacon is located on the east side of Lake Ontario and is bordered by the towns of North Aurora to the north and West Aurora to the south. It is also bordered by one-time U.S. president Jimmy Carter's farmlands on both sides of Hwy 11. The name "Beacon" comes from two founding fathers in early America: Samuel Parker and David Whitcomb. They were part of a group that included George Washington and James Kentsfield who founded what would become Albany in 1792. The original village site was near where modern-day Beacon is located today on Bald Eagle Road between Center Road and Highway 11A (modern day Highway 6). The first settler in what would become Beacon was Samuel Parker who arrived there about 1793 with his family for land purchases along Hwy 11A from John Graves Simcoe. In 1812, Drury Hotchkiss donated land adjacent to present day Griggsville for a roadstead called "Beacon". In 1814, when US President James Kentsfield traveled through New York City on his way back from Europe, he stopped at Beacons Inn which had been built by Elisha Dearborn as an inn/post office on Beaver Pond Road outside Griggsville. At this point Kentsfield recommended that gristmill operator Joseph Griggs move his mill closer to Buffalo so that he could better service travelers coming through New York City via highway 11A then called "the Erie Canal". When new State Route 9 was established concurrent with NY Route 20 in 1922 it followed current Beaver Pond Road before bypassing downtown Beaconsvillle becoming concurrent NY Routes 10 & 12 until its junction with NY Route 23 (now Interstate 87) in 1957; after which time it became an independent community with its own post office (opened July 1st1959) continuing up into 2018 still using Beaver Pond Road as its primary route street address! In 1951 local resident Elmer Pillsbury donated land adjoining present day Genevavale for use as a high school football stadium; after serving as home field for Newton High School thru 1973 then Lawrence Academy thru 2006 when they moved to nearby Webster Hall; finally being purchased by Beacon Township in 2018 and demolishing their old building – giving rise to today’s sprawling campus consisting of multiple sports fields including one brand new artificial turf field complete with all necessary infrastructure including lights & sound! beacon now boasts some features not found anywhere else! beacons newest amenity may well be their' amazing library! Beacon is a small town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 3,890 at the 2010 census. Beacon is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled in 1795 by farmers from present-day Schenectady and Albany who named it for John Beacon, a British general who had helped fight against American independence. In 1825, the town became an incorporated village under the name of Delaware Township. It was renamed Beacon in 1892 after then-Governor George Washington Beale. In 1895, the Erie Canal was completed and new settlers began to arrive in what was now Beacon from all over New York State. By 1903, most of the original inhabitants had died or left for other towns in central New York due to high costs of living and lack of opportunities in rural areas when compared to cities like Buffalo and Rochester. However, through hard work and perseverance by many residents over many years – even as prices soared – Beacon has managed to stay afloat while others have failed. Today’s economy is based on agriculture; manufacturing; services; transportation (including online shopping); tourism; and real estate development which has led to increased business activity throughout much of downtown area including along Main Street where main businesses are located today including three banks (JPMorgan Chase Bank, Fordham University ((New Rochelle), HSBC) as well as several restaurants/cafes/stores/mall etc.), major retailers such as Macy’s Department Store (the largest mall east of Interstate 83), Sears Holdings Corporation (one of America’s oldest department stores still open), Welland Hardware Stores Inc., seven ambulance companies with ambulances stationed at various intersections around town for emergency medical service purposes only two days per month during normal work hours (!), one full time paramedic school teaching paramedics how to do proper resuscitation techniques just outside city limits since 2003 (!).
Beacon was founded in 1770 by John George Sexton as a small trading post on the outlet of what is now Harlem River. The first store, built of logs, opened in 1772 and soon became a center for black trade. In 1815, when New York state was created from parts of Upper Canada, Beacon became the state's second capital.
