In 1916, Four Corners Coffee Company moved into the old cupola at Four Corners Hall on Main Street and started serving world-class espresso drinks made with fresh roasted beans from Italy and Rome. Binghamton is a city in the U.S. state of New York, and the capital of Binghamton County. The population was 527 at the 2010 census. Binghamton was founded by John Bingham in 1795 as a small trading post on the east bank of Susquehanna River. In 1814, it became an incorporated town and remained so until 1959 when it merged with Syracuse to form the current City of Syracuse. The first permanent settler in what is now Binghamton was John Bingham, who arrived from England in 1795 and erected a log cabin on the east bank of Susquehanna River. He named his new settlement for his ancestor, George Washington Bingham, who had served as executive councillor to Lord Loudoun during the American Revolution. Over time other settlers followed suit, and by 1800 there were over 20 buildings in what would become Binghamton. In 1814, John Bingham's son-in-law Nicholas Tompkins organized a group of land speculators and entrepreneurs known as "The Western Land Company" to purchase 1,500 acres (600 hectares) along Buffalo Creek near modern day Canandaigua Falls for $2 per acre ($40 per km²). This area would later become one of the most important commercial sites in central New York due to its fertile soil and natural resources such as coal, lumber, iron ore, oil shale and watermelons. The company built two largest mills in New York State – the Erie Canal Mills west of downtown Buffalo and Easton Water Works just northeast of Canandaigua Falls – which processed more than 2 million pounds (1 ton) of raw materials every day by 1830. Although initially unsuccessful due to competition from eastern millers such as Andrew Carnegie & James Watt), The Western Land Company continued operations through several successful acquisitions throughout 1825 before being officially sold off to James Wright Sr., one of America's leading investors and capitalists at that time, on December 12th that year for $100 thousand dollars ($10 million today). By this point many residents had grown tired of living close to wealthy eastern businessmen while they continued making profits off their businesses; consequently they proposed incorporation into a new village called Onondaga underwritten by Wright Sr., which passed both houses Of Congress without objection on December 15th,. On January 1st 1860 Yates Vaux opened sales for incorporation with 607 names submitted - more than any other municipality accepts within 24 hours! The city proper was laid out within three years following incorporation including streets running north-south bisecting High Street between Greektown/Canandaigua Falls Road (now Wellesley Street) & Central Boulevard; these streets formed what is currently Elmwood Avenue (& Orchard RoadSouthwest corner).
