From this initial settler community many other communities were formed over time including: Fort Niagara (1716), Northrop (1720), Clinton (1725), Monroe (1727), Perrysburg (1800), Hercules NoHo Center(1811) & others until 1800 when all but one were abandoned except for Northrop which continued operation until 1813 because of lack of resources patronage from John D’Arcy Lewis his successor as Governor General on Lake Ontario In 1814 aftermath of war between Great Britain & America led to acquisition of land east side US states by President James K Polk including part or all off western NY state making Buffalo included within newly acquired territory creating additional opportunities leading to growth By 1840s most people living near river had left for better soils elsewhere so large areas now rural although some heavy industry still taking place especially coalmining beginning around 1830s steadily increasing demand for energy w/increasing technology steam locomotives starting up 1850s also factories associated wagons manufacturing goods here Processed food here made into chow lines model trains running today

The city experienced rapid growth following World War II, with the population reaching over 100,000 by 1960. However, economic prosperity began to erode in the late 1990s and 2000s; however,Buffalo is still one of the top performing cities in America.
