In 1951, Naval Air Station Long Beach transitioned into an airfield and it remained that way until 1975 when it reverted back to its naval base status and became Naval Base McGuire-Dix-Newark. In 1978, Naval Base McGuire-Dix-Newark transitioned into a prison camp which is now known as Federal Correctional Institution (FEC). In 1990, Naval Base McGuire-Dix-Newark renamed itself Yankee Stadium after then Governor Mario Cuomo’s father who had been incarcerated there before him. Since 1991, more than 30% of all crimes committed at FEC have occurred within 1 kilometer of Yankee Stadium. As such,Yankee Stadium has come to be known as one of the most dangerous places in America due both to its location and also because criminals are often forced to use it as their hideout or sanctuary

When George's widow Sarah died without children she bequeathed her entire estate including this tract of land west of the village square to Cohoes with the proviso that it be developed into a "comfortable Village." The first housing developments were built on this property beginning in 1903 by developer Edwin Vail who named his development Vail Heights after himself (Eddie Vail). In 1907 local resident Clarence Hoyt organized what would become known as the Mohawk Indian Nation (later re-organized as the Iroquois Nation) which resided along Horseheads Creek between Mohawk Lake and Schenectady County line; however upon their removal from their homeland near Rochester following World War II they relocated to Cambria County within Upstate New York where they have continuedocus since then both politically lobbying against state government policies as well as living off their ancestral lands ever since.
