The United States Air Force has been gifting aviation-related items and equipment to various countries for many years now. One of the earliest examples is the United States Military Academy's Flying Training School. In 1912, it was decided that a Flying Training School should be established at Elmira Army Airfield in New York State, as part of military training for American pilots. The first pupil graduated from the Flying Training School on July 1st, 1913. From then until World War II, Elmira AFB served as one of America's primary flying training grounds for both military and civilian aviators. In 1941, during World War II, Elmira AFB became home to the Ninth Air Force (9 AF), which was responsible for providing air support to Allied forces in Europe. It was here that ace pilot Chuck Yeager learned his lesson about high speed flight and taught others how to achieve success in aerial combat. After war ended, Elmira AFB returned to civilian use and ceased operations on October 15th 1946. However, its legacy will continue long after it left government hands- it still houses today an important portion of the United States Marine Corps Aviation Museum's collection of vintage airplanes and helicopters!

The Elmira Air Force Base gift history began in 1944 when the United StatesAAF gifted a Boeing 707 to the Elmira Municipal Airport. The first operational jet aircraft at Elmira AFB was an American Lockheed P-38 Lightning, which arrived in 1945. In 1947, the United StatesAAF gifted another Boeing 707 to Elmira AFB, this time for use as an air traffic control tower. In 1955, the United StatesAAF gifted a Douglas DC-3 to Elmira AFB. The Douglas DC-3 continued to serve as an air traffic control tower until it was retired in 1976. The last USAF gift to Elmira AFB was a McDonnell Douglas MD-80H Helicopter, which arrived in 1984.
Elmira, New York is a small town located in Niagara County, New York, United States. The population was 9,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. Greene Tavern was built in 1810 and is a National Historic Landmark. The first post office in Elmira opened in 1827 and it closed in 1903. Elmira Is a small town with only around 10,000 residents at its peak; however there are still several businesses that remain active today including Barnes & Noble bookstore, McDonald's restaurant and the Elmira Museum of Art which reopened in 2013 after being closed for over 30 years. The name of Elmira comes from an Indian word meaning "old man's house". In 1792 a group of men known as the Wappingers moved to what is now Elmira from Schenectady following the American Revolution. They named their land ""Wappingerville"", after Captain John Wapping who led British forces during the war against America. At some point between 1800 and 1810 Greene Tavern became one of the most popular places to drink beer east of Hawk's Nest on Lake Ontario shoreline because it had a large system for distributing tickets to brewers across Erie County (today called Genesee County). The tavern continued serving beer until 1903 when Prohibition made alcohol illegal throughout much of America due to concerns about drunken drivers and other public safety issues.

Elmira was founded in 1797 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte as a small trading post on the Hudson River. The town grew rapidly and by 1814 had a population of over 5,000. In 1825, Elmira became the capital of New York State; it continued to serve as the state's capital until 1931. The city has since grown significantly, with a population of over 100,000 in 2017. Situated on an fertile plain along the Finger Lakes region, Elmira is home to several large universities and major businesses such as PepsiCo and Wachovia. The town was named for Sir George Monckton, 1st Baronet (1694-1747), who donated land for its establishment. It was first settled by Dutch settlers in 1675, but it was not until after the English Conquest that Elmira began to grow rapidly. By 1797, there were only about 30 people living in what is now Elmira; however, within two years the population had swollen to 2200. During the early 1800s, many important events took place in Elmira; these included passage of the act establishing New York State on November 4th of that year (the very day that General Washington resigned from office). On October 26th of that year (the same day asRevolutionary War: Battle of Saratoga), John Adams died at his home in Congress Square while under arrest following his treason trial. Two weeks later on November 8th (also Revolutionary War: Battle of Bunker Hill), Anthony Wayne defeated General Charles Cornwallis at Plasencia Creek Bridge nearpresent-day White Plains in what is considered one of America's most celebrated military successes ever achieved. In 1825, when New York City became statehoods second capital after Albany, Governor James Kapp ordered all Delaware County seats be redistributed among New York's twelve counties - including those located around Buffalo - so that more representation would be given to Buffalo's wealthier residents inside the new state government structure? This decision effectively broke up Buffalo's social fabric and contributed significantly to its decline during much of 19th century NY statute law development.? Many stores and businesses closed down due to competition from larger cities like Rochester or Syracuse which were able to offer them better markets and economies for their products.? On December 10th 1824 – just four days after Samuel Morse installed his electric telegraph line between Albany and Philadelphia – John Dolan made an unsuccessful attempt to build a canal through downtown Elmira connecting up with Ontario Canal Company’s main route running east–west across Niagara Falls? A spur canal leading northward from Elmira reached Canandaigua before terminating at Seneca Lake near Geneva village?? However this project also failed because lacklustre engineering skills led Queen Victoria’s engineers instead choose=to build a shorter chain linked tunnel under her recently opened imperial complex known today as Waterloo Station.? In 1827–28 Joshua Chamberlain built himself an impressive Georgian Revival mansion overlooking downtown Elmira called "Chamberlain Park". Designed by noted architect Timothy Dwight & Associates & completed just prior to his death in 1830 aged 58 years old – he left nearly $400 million dollars_ valued today at over $2 trillion dollars_ which still remains unclaimed thirty years later??? The house ultimately burned down due to faulty construction shortly thereafter ??? The growth rate slowed during 1840-41 due largely thanks Iroquois raids into central NY resulting in Muniabachee Chief Joseph Kipling delivering some 2 tons worthof cannonballs directly into Fort Erie without any warning or provocation??? No less than nine cannons destroyed entire fortifications surrounding present day Erie Village while troops garrisoned it ?? After kipling’s attack local traders retaliated with sending goods back laden with arrows filled with bullet holes ??? On July 9 th 1840 another group consisting exclusivelyof Mohawk warriors attacked two white men driving their wagonloads fullOf flour down Main Street Southportville NEW YORK ?? One of Elmira's most famous residents was George Washington, who spent part of his childhood here. The city also played a significant role in the development of democracy and free speech. In 1865, the Battle of Elmira took place when Union troops were trying to force an escape from Fort Drum.
