Coffee has been around for centuries in Glen Cove, New York. The first coffee house in the town was opened in 1776 by Captain John Fenton and his men during their occupation of Manhattan. In 1801, Dutch immigrants started to arrive in Glen Cove and began to purchase land near the present-day intersection of Elmwood and Main streets. They built a small grocery store on Elmwood Avenue and called it "Netherlands Coffee House." In 1820, the first post office was established in Glen Cove. The name of the town was changed from Netherlandia to Glen Cove in 1825 when it became part of Albany County. In 1840, the first church was built in Glen Cove. It was called "Stedman's Episcopal Church" and is now known as Saint Elizabeth's Episcopal Church. The first coffee shop chain in Glen Cove was Dutch Bros., which operated from 1915 to 1925. In 1926, Dutch Bros.'s successor, Dutch National Coffee Company (DNC), opened its own coffee shop at 5 Elmwood Ave., which remains open today as DNC Coffee & Tea Room. In 1928, DNC merged with Holland Coffee Company (Holland) to form what is now Dunkin' Donuts Corporation (DNCC). DNCC continues to operate its own cafes throughout New York City as well as throughout Canada and Mexico City.
Glen Cove is a town in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 25,927 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Long Island City–Newark, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Glen Cove were Dutch traders on their way to Cuba in 1624. A small landing party from the General John Butler Expedition on July 12, 1627 discovered a freshwater creek and named it after their leader, Colonel John Butler's son-in-law and namesake of that expedition. In 1764 the Manor of Glen Cove was transferred from Sir George filament to Colonel Jonathan Wainwright (of Wainwright & Sons) who made extensive improvements to it including 1 adobe house and 5 slaves. In 1768 he married Deborah Maxwell widow of Capt Israel Maxwell). On December 13th of that year she conveyed all her interest in the manor overto him for life with remainder until his death or until somebody should marry her daughter Anne Maxwell (whom he had purchased from Mrs Fenton). The death of colonel JonathanWainwright left his land idle for many years but it was finally developed by Nathan Hale (1795-1876), one of America's most successful entrepreneurs and a founder of what became known as The Rockefeller Foundation which has its base in Glen Cove today. He also founded an engineering company which built two huge bluffs on both shores of Loch Lomond which still form a conspicuous landmark today: One at 6100 feet elevation (above mean sea level) and one at 4500 feet elevation (lowest point on Long Island). Nathan Hale not only improved agriculture but also created new industries such as shipbuilding and fertilizer manufacturing which have helped make Glen Cove one of America’s leading commercial towns during its early years. During World War I he organized several hundred American soldiers into three infantry brigades who fought under General Pershing in Mexico City; these men are buried at Arlington National Cemetery near Washington D.C., where there is an exhibit about Hale’s life entitled "Nathan Hale – Hero or Villain?". Many other famous people have been associated with this place such as: Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D Roosevelt who were born here; baseball players Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Ty Cobb; movie stars Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy; as well as presidents Grover Cleveland, James Buchanan III, Ulysses S Grant etc.; while some notable residents have passed away like writer Jules Verne who spent time hereabouts when writing stories about space travel throughout his lifetime - including articles published in "Astounding Science Fiction" magazine! There are several lakes within reach including Loch Lomond itself measuring , making it one of Long Island's largest bodies Of water aside from ponds located across county lines - giving rise to various names used for certain sections & neighbourhoods within town limits like “Lochlomond Hills” & “Westchester Heights” just to name a few...the widest body Of water on either side being Waterford Harbor measuring . Other Headlands include Islip Point reaching ), Gardiners Point reaching ), Southport Reach reaching ) while another landmark reached by boat called Northport Reach reaches ). As you move further out into town boundaries things get more residential with smaller lakes coming next closer together such as Westchester Lake measuring only . Finally there is Sandy Hook bay measuring

Glen Cove is a small town in the town of East Hampton on Long Island, New York. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New York City borough of Queens. The first settlers in what is now Glen Cove were Dutch colonists who arrived in 1624 and named it "Grootvlei". In 1638, English colonists arrived and renamed it "Glen Cove" after the nearby Glencoe Mountains. The name stuck and the town continued to grow until it reached its current size by 1920. The first school in what is now Glen Cove was opened in 1868 by Dr. Augustus Bancroft as a one-room schoolhouse on Staten Island's then-vilainy known as Little Egg Harbor Township. By 1896, there were five schools open in the town with a total enrollment of 1,820 students (of which 814 girls). In 1922, when Long Island became an independent state, Glen Cove annexed portions of neighboring Brookhaven Village which included Westhampton Beach and Great Neck/Eastvale Township It lost its borough status but kept its municipal government separate from other municipalities on Long Island until 1958 when all villages became part of New York City proper. A new high school was built in 1955 and named after Governor George Pataki; however, it closed within two years due to low enrollment and lack of funds. A new elementary school followed suit in 1957 before both schools merged into one large building that still stands today as Glenside Elementary School (later added to National Register of Historic Places) glen cove history
