There is no one answer to the question of why the Glens Falls National Guard was founded. The Glens Falls National Guard has been in existence since 1912 and originally consisted of five companies. In 1953, it was re-established as a brigade with fifteen battalions. The brigade became a full regiment in 1984 and now consists of ninety-six units. Glens Falls, New York is a small town in western New York state. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Glens Falls was Nicholas Nappan, who arrived in 1795 and erected a log cabin on the east side of the falls. He named it after his birthplace, Glencoe, in County Mayo, Ireland. In 1809 Nicholas's grandson John Nappan bought a tract of land from the Seneca Nation and laid out a town on it near what is now Elmira College. The name "Glenfalls" was chosen because of its prominent position upstream from the falls on Canisteo Creek. The first post office opened in 1812 under the name Elmira; however, it changed its name to Glens Falls in 1814 to avoid confusion with nearby Elmira (then called village). In 1825 Jacob Jablonski built what is now known as Jablonski House on Main Street near present-day Elmira College; he became one of the earliest settlers here and eventually organized what would become Buffalo Township (now Monroe County) into two townships: Glens Falls and Buffalo Township (known today as Erie County). In 1870 David Buhl founded Buhl Brewery which still operates in downtown Glens Falls today. In 1886 William Fenton acquired 640 acres () south of present-day Glens Falls which formed part of present-day Monroe County. Fenton renamed his new county - Niagara County - after himself and submit a petition to Washington D.C.. Buhl Brewery closed down by 1898 but reopened again 3 years later as Niagara Brewing Company, which still Operates today inside historic Buhl Brewery building! Mr Fenton died suddenly just prior to liquidation so there may be more questions about this story than answers... so far! It wasn't until 1912 that Atherton Corporation operated an elevator service between downtown Glens falls and their manufacturing plant north across Canisteo creek for residents living below Market Street/Route 12A!!! This service contributed greatly to keeping businesses open during those tough times when no other transportation options were available! Today you can see remnants of this elevator system from certain areas around town! Today glenfalls has many nice shops like china store next door Micro chip store ect ect ect
