The Harrison, New York Army National Guard Armory was built in 1917 and is the oldest armory in the state of New York. The building has been used by the Army National Guard for the past 102 years and it is currently used as a museum. The armory is open to the public from 9am to 4pm every day except Christmas Day. The armory was built on land that once belonged to Colonel George Washington himself. The colonel donated the land to the Harrison Municipal Authority in 1917, which then sold it to the New York State Defense Fund. The fund leased the armory from Hammonds-Meek Automotive Company until 1925. From 1925 until 1959, it was owned by J.P. Morgan & Co., which sold it to Messrs. Biddle and Warburg LLC in 1959. It then passed through several hands before being purchased by Hudson Valley Regional Museum in 1997. Since 1997, the Harrisonarmyarmymuseum has kept the building closed Mondays because of its importance in military gift history within our community dating back to World War 1! The Harrison, New York military gift history begins with the Revolutionary War. The town was founded in 1777 by Colonel George Washington and his wife Martha. The first militia unit ever organized in the town was called the "Harrison Artillery Company" and it was formed to protect the town during the war. In 1783, General John Burgoyne's army invaded New York and caused a great deal of damage and loss of life. After the war, many of these veterans settled in Harrison, including General Nathanael Greene, who became its first mayor. In 1801, Harrison became part of Erie County and then New York state when it was admitted into stateshood. One of its earliest residents was William Henry Harrison Jr., who served as governor from 1827 to 1830. He is also buried in Harrison Cemetery.
Harrison is a town in Wayne County, New York, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Utica–Rome, NY-HI-NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to reach Harrison were French traders who landed there in 1614. The town was founded by Nicholas Putnam and his brother John on October 12, 1784 as a place to sell apples from their orchards near Rome. In 1827, it became the seat of Wayne County when it was created from parts of Ontario County. It had a population of 866 in 1830 but declined to 902 in 1850 before growing again to 1,859 in 1910. Henry Ford began production at the Harrison Rouge Plant in 1915 and added jobs to the town economy; however, Ford's plant closed operations in 1997 and laid off most of its workers. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. The only water body located within Harrison is Lake Erie which forms part of its eastern border with Canada and provides drinking water for over half a million people downstream each day The town lies on high ground that slopes gently down towards Lake Erie providing excellent agricultural opportunities for local farmers including apple orchards, cornfields and potato fields as well as being close enough to allow easy access both for shopping and commuting into larger cities such as Buffalo and Utica without having to leave Harrison itself

Harrison was born in 1792 and died in 1872. He was a lawyer who served as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1827 to 1830 and the Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1830 to 1836.
