Harrison, New York is a small town located in Western New York. The population was 5,641 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Utica-Rome-Fayette, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. Harrison is one of only two towns in this area and has a population of only 2,700 people as of 2018. The town was named for General Simon Bolivar Harrison who fought in the Mexican-American War and then served as U.S. Minister to Venezuela from 1848 to 1850. In 1867, Harrison became the first mayor of Utica and reigned until his death in 1872. He was buried in the town's cemetery which still exists today. Harrison is home to two schools: Harrison Central School (K-8) and Utica High School (9th-12th). There are also three churches: St John's Episcopal Church (founded in 1865), First Unitarian Universalist Church (founded in 1870), and Presbyterianism's First United Methodist Church (founded in 1903).
