Harrison, New York is a small town in upstate New York, located on the shores of Lake Ontario. The population was 5,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Albany–Schenectady–Troy Metropolitan Statistical Area. Harrison was first settled by Germans in 1786 and named for General George Washington. The town was incorporated as a village in 1825 and became a town in 1857. It has had three mayors: Isaac Sibley (1861-1865), Salmon P. Chase (1867-1871), and Horace Greeley (1877-1879). The town features one of the earliest known churches in upstate New York, built in 1786 by German settlers near what is now Harrison High School. The current frame church was constructed between 1905 and 1907 and dedicated on July 15, 1907 by Mayor Greeley with contributions from local farmers, artisans, manufacturers, bankers and others who were interested in promoting religious education within the community. The brick building replaced an earlier Lutheran chapel which had been destroyed by fire several years earlier. Harrison also contains many examples of Victorian architecture including two stone row houses that date back to 1875 stand next to each other on Main Street west of the high school; they are locally known as "the two tall houses". One house has been renovated into apartments while the other still stands as a property line landmark used for photography purposes only until recently when it was purchased by Harrison Heritage Museum Incorporated In addition to its well preserved traditional architecture there are many modern buildings erected over time such as an insurance company office built in 1990 located at 231 Main Street which is currently being renovated into a museum serving as both an archive research center for local history residents as well as a living history museum showcasing everyday life experiences of locals during prohibition era There are also several parks dotting this small town including Harrison Park adjacent to Main Street south of the high school which includes baseball diamonds, basketball courts/rails, tennis Courts/rails along with playgrounds for children ages 0-5th grade

Harrison, New York is a small town in upstate New York that was settled by English colonists in 1624. The town has a population of just over 1,000 residents today and is located about 25 miles north of Buffalo. Harrison was made the county seat of Erie County in 1825 and has been its sole occupant since that time. The community first sprang up around a Methodist preacher, John Harrison, who came to the area in 1811. He built the first house on what is now Main Street in 1813 and started trade with other settlers near Buffalo. In 1820, he donated land to make into an agricultural township, which he named for himself. The early Harrison family were cotton farmers who grew crops such as rice, corn and potatoes. They also raised horses and livestock. John’s grandson Daniel died young in 1792 at age 33 years old while serving as captain of Company K (the Royal Americans) during the War of Independence against Great Britain; his widow Mercy took over running the farm until her husband’s death two years later. Mercy then married Nicholas Gorham (1769-1829), one of several Native Americans who had sided with British forces during the war. Nicholas had served as aide-de-camp to General George Washington during the initial stages of hostilities before eventually becoming an Indian trader in Canada. After returning home to America, he bought outMercy’s share in the farm from her son-in-law Daniel Gorham Jr.. In 1800/01 Daniel Jr., along withhis three brothers John (1768-1845), Mathew (1772-1848) and Randolph (1776-1850) founded Grantstown & Company Canal Navigation companyLimited which operated canals within Erie County shipping goods both ways between Buffalo Niagara Falls & Lancaster OntarioCanada until 1865 These days you can visit some remnant canal locks still standing today on route 9 south from Harrison to Canandaigua
