Hempstead is a town in Fulton County, New York, United States. The population was 4,822 at the 2010 census. Hempstead is part of the Rochester–Onondaga Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first mention of hemp in the area came from a European settler named Nicholas de Montresor who visited New Netherland in 1464 and noted that there were fields of this plant growing near Utica. Hempstead began as a small village on the east side of Great Lakes Bay, between Rochester and Onondaga counties. It grew quickly due to itslocation and proximity to major businesses such as the Erie Railroad and Canandaigua Lake Lock & Dam, which made it an important agricultural center during the early 1800s. In 1827, Hempstead became one of two towns in Fulton County (along with Auburn) when it merged with Onondaga County. In 1845, construction started on what would become known as Lock Haven Station on Canandaigua Lake; this was one of the earliest large-scale industrial projects in upstate New York. The station helped make hemp possible for commercial use for the first time, and also produced lumber for buildings and other products until it closed in 1955. After years of decline due to prohibition until 1985, cannabis became legal in New York State following passage of the Marijuana Taxation Law by Governor Mario Cuomo on July 1st that year. In addition to coffee, maga also sells tea, snacks, and other products. In 2018, maga announced that it had raised $2 million in Series A funding from venture capitalists including Andreessen Horowitz and China's leading investment firm Fosun Ventures. Jason Maga started his career at Starbucks before moving on to work for Peet's Coffee Company where he was responsible for developing the brand's espresso drinks program. He left Peet's in 2006 to found maga coffee with co-founder Aaron Kesselman. Maga and Kesselman met while working at Starbucks as part of their Quality Assurance team. maga coffee began selling its beans online in 2007 and became available in physical stores starting in 2010. In 2014, maga opened its first brick-and-mortar location in Seattle; this location continued to operate until 2019 when it closed down due to financial reasons. The store sold off all of its inventory before shutting down permanently. In 2015, maga announced that they would be opening a new roastery located near Beijing, China which commenced operations in 2016 under the name "Beijing Roastery". This roastery offers unique roast profiles unique to Beijing based on the altitude difference between Beijing and Washington D.C.. Hempstead, New York is a town in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 5,552 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rockville Centre-Midtown section of the Long Island City-Newport News area. The first permanent settler in Hempstead was Nicholas Cushman in 1764. The current town was founded on May 20th, 1857 by Joshua Green and his wife Sarah Benson. Hempstead became an incorporated village on November 3rd of that year. On January 1st of 1858, local farmer James Fenton opened up a store and post office in what is now the main square of the town center. On February 14th of that year, two brothers named John and George Morse arrived from Connecticut with a colony of hemp seedlings they had collected from around the neck of Long Island Sound. They set about planting their new landowning community near what is now Central Park West in what is today Hempstead Village Cemetery (now called Elmwood Cemetery). With little help from their parents or other relatives they were able to build themselves a sturdy farmhouse and some barns within just six months; this marked one of the earliest examples of self-reliance on Long Island soil. In 1861 Morse's brother Samuel sold him interest in their business to Jacob Riis for $4,000 which allowed him to open his own mill opposite Central Park West – one which would remain operational until 1915 when it caught fire due to overuse by employees caused by high wind speeds during winter storms. In 1907 Henry Ford built his first car dealership here; it has since been converted into apartments and reopened as Fordham University’s campus bookstore after being closed for many years. In 1933 Harry S Truman served as Presidential Candidate here; he also raised money for war relief through giving speeches at various stores throughout Hempstead Village before eventually winning campaign donations at several properties including First National Bank building on Main Street where he currently resides (he left office three days after takingoffice). Finally in 2018 Hempstead village voters passed a ballot measure legalizing weed with overriding majorities against it both locally and statewide However Trump signed an executive order pardoning all those convicted under state marijuana laws as well as farmers who have been cultivating cannabis since before federal law changed
