Airforce gift history in Jamestown, New York began with the United States Air Force Academy. The Academy was founded on November 4, 1947 by General Curtis LeMay and Lt. Colonel Harry Truman. The Academy was designed to provide a military education for young men from all over the United States. It is now one of the leading air academies in the world. The first class of cadets graduated from the Academy on July 1, 1948. Since then, over 350 students have graduated from the Academy with various degrees and commissions including lieutenant colonel (USAF), colonel (USAF), brigadier general (USAFE), and major general (USAFE). In 1951, President Harry S Truman presented General LeMay with an honorary degree from the Air Force Academy. General LeMay later became Commander-in-Chief of USAF during the Eisenhower Administration. The Air Force Base at Kelly Field in Wichita KS opened its doors to service members on September 17th, 1957 as Operation Crossroads beganOperation Raven which doubled as Americas first worldwide airlift operation since World War II . This event also marked America’s return to aerial warfare after more than 50 years being out of action while our adversaries were relegated to land operations

It was on May 14, 1607 that English colonists landed on the shores of what is now Jamestown, Virginia. They were led by Captain John Smith and his group of settlers who named their new land "New England." The English soon realized that they needed a permanent home for their new colony and so they began to build a fortification against potential Native American attacks. The first fort was built on an island in the James River. It was known as Fort George. In 1609, the English moved their headquarters to Jamestown because of the danger posed by the French and Spanish in North America. The fortifications at Jamestown became one of the most important parts of English culture in this time period. The settlers also began to cultivate crops and grew tobacco which helped finance British military campaigns in North America. The tobacco industry helped make England economically strong during this time period. In 1619, King James I granted royal patent to three groups of investors who would continue buildingforts at Jamestown: Sir Nicholas Mylne, Christopher Newport, and Edmund Andros. These men were responsible for developing many aspects of colonial life such as roadbuilding, shipping, agriculture, trade, and law enforcement within the new colony. By 1776, only seven years after independence from Great Britain had been achieved,Jamestown had become an important commercial center with a population of over 5200 people living in buildings stretching from Main Street eastward into Williamsburg County (now Richmond). By 1800 Jamestown's population had dwindled to just under 1000 people due to economic reasons alone- its importance as a trading post having long since passed away .

Jamestown was first settled in 1607 by English colonists. The area that is now Jamestown was part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland. In 1664, English settlers, led by Sir John Smith, began to settle the area that is now Jamestown. The English name for the settlement was "Newburgh." By 1681, the English had renamed the settlement "Jamaica." The British government granted land to various groups of settlers in what is now Virginia for their efforts in developing this new province of America. The first group to receive a grant from London were those who would become known as the Pilgrims. These men included John Winthrop and his brother William Bradford. When all of England withdrew its support for King Charles II during the Glorious Revolution in 1688, many of these colonists chose to remain in America rather than return home. They named their new colony "Jamaica" after their homeland in England. In 1776, when American independence was declared, many British soldiers were stationed at Fort Caroline on Long Island Sound. After a series of skirmishes with British forces over several months, Captain Jonathan Williams surrendered on June 9th without terms or conditions. This ended any hope that Jamaica might be an acceptable offers by Britain for joining Confederation as a separate country within America. It should be noted that this event did not result in any direct damage or fatalities among either side; however it did lead to increased tensions between both communities and set off what would ultimately be one of history's most famous wars: The American Revolution
In 1607, the English founded Jamestown on the natural harbor of Yorktown. In 1712, the British renamed it Gloucester in honor of Prince George, Duke of Gloucester. The town became a part of Virginia in 1755 and was renamed Richmond in 1819 after Confederate General Robert E. Lee. In 1865, as part of the American Civil War, Richmond fell to Union forces and was acquired by Virginia as its capital city. It has been the state capital since 1959.
