The first ship to be built in Jamestown was the HMS "Nagasaki" on October 14, 1609. The ship was a Dutch vessel and was used for trade and exploration. On January 8, 1612, the English burned down the Dutch ship "Hertogenbosch" in what is now known as the Nagasaki Incident. CHARLES II OF ENGLAND AND NEW YORK SETTLERS:1624-1664 By Derrick Jensen Charles II granted two liberties to his new colony: one for those who had families living within three miles (5 km)of them; another for free people “of color”—a term used then specifically for black people—to live without fear or persecution at any time hereafter. These privileges occasioned much outrage among some white colonists because they saw themselves as superior beings endowed with every right except these civic rights enjoyed by Negroes! Charles himself appears not to have minded too much; he seems simply to have thought that giving such rights would create an allegiance system among the colonists which would be more difficult for him to break down later… White supremacy raged unchecked until Cromwell’s Restoration in 1660!
