Kingston, New York is a city located in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. The population was 14,829 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Clinton County and has a rich history dating back to 1789. Kingston was named for Jameson Kingston, an American Revolutionary War general and member of the Second Continental Congress. The first permanent European settlers in what is now Kingston were French trappers who came through the area in 1624. They named their new town after their leader, Jean-Baptiste La Salle, who had explored this part of New York state earlier that year. The first steamboat to call at Kingston was the brigantine Raritan in 1814. In 1825, John Sutter founded Sutter's Fort on present-day Battery Park City as part of his effort to make way for gold miners into what he saw as an untapped mineral wealth in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains. By 1830, goldmining had reached such high levels that Sutter decided to move his operations westward into what is today Kingston—a decision that would pay off handsomely over the next several decades. In 1834, construction began on Kingsbridge Road (later known as I-87) which connected Albany with Buffalo and opened up trade between these two cities greatly increasing commerce within and outside of those two towns. Kingsbridge Road soon became one of America’s most important transportation artery due not only to its location but also because it allowed goods from inland farms and villages downriver on Horseheads Creek (now called Niagara River) to be shipped all the way upriver to markets in downtown Albany or Buffalo without having to go through Stockbridge or Rochester – thus sparing travelers many hours spent waiting on long trips across country. Today much of what makes up Kingsbridge Road were built during Queen Victoria’s time when she donated land comprising parts of modern day Brooklyn and Queens; however much still remains original including portions of King Bridge which spanned Horseheads Creek when built! Although originally just a small community consisting mostly farmers and their families living close by water resources they quickly grew rich beyond anything anyone could have imagined based upon their local geography alone; this growth was largely due both to innovations brought about by early entrepreneurs like Drillington Dixon Sr., founder & CEO Of Dixon Coal Mines Ltd.; millwright Elijah Whitehead who invented The Continuous Loading DockTM & Andrew Selkirk who developed The Cement Kiln TM& later becoming President Of Canadair Incorporated; Samuel Morse whose invention signaledthe beginningof telephone service throughout North America; & others including Jeremiah Dolan who opened Upstate Creamery first commercial milk store In 1898 (& now operates One Water Street full time). After years oth er development various banks & grocery stores flamed out leaving little evidence remaining OF THE PRECEDING COMMUNITY Jaystown until recently! Kingsbridge Rd served as one waypoint along I-87 before branching off onto Route 9 northbound towards Scranton while continuing southbound on I-87 towards Toronto turning eastward onto routes 422nd St NYA (now CR 840 yards east end) then rejoining I-87 just past exit #3 leading southeastwards towards Syracuse NY where it met Witharing Rd becoming a main street once again!

The first settler in Kingston was Nicholas Fortescue who arrived on December 12, 1777 and named it for his home country, Scotland. In 1853, Kingston hosted the annual meeting of the American Antiquarian Society which led to its establishment as an act-city under charter granted by Governor David Winthrop on July 15 that year. That same year saw Kingston become one of thirteen towns in Onondaga County when it was formed from part of Schoharie County.. In 1870–71, Kingston hosted the annual meeting of New York State Agricultural Society at which laws were passed regulating agriculture and animal husbandry within Connecticut Valley counties including Onondaga County. During World War II, Kingston played a significant role as a key munitions production center for western New York; over two million tons (2 million metric tons) were produced from 1942 until 1945 at various factories located throughout village including King’s Mills Workshops & Small Arms Plant #1 (now known as Cattaraugus Technologies), Peekskill Arsenal No 2 (now known as Westchester Medical University), Empire Chemical Company complexes at both Schenectady and Auburn locations in Kingsland Village – among others - making it one of America’s most important industrial areas during that time period. Thereafterward Queenstown began overshadowed by Kingston’s status as an economic powerhouse while many businesses closed their doors or relocated within town limits; however new businesses have begun proliferating within enclave since then thanks to investment from private investors such as Buffalo Billionaire Terry Goulet who has pledged$100M toward revitalizing central Queensgate area through redevelopment/construction projects starting with Office Park South on Main Street just east side busy intersection currently hosting several small retailers primarilyserving light commercial uses only
The town of Kingston, New York was settled in 1792 by Loyalists who fled the American Revolution. The first mill on the river named after Kingston was built in 1798. In 1814, the town became a part of the newly created Erie Canal Zone and it was annexed by Buffalo in 1825. The population of Kingston increased rapidly during the late 1800s as a result of manufacturing and agricultural prosperity. By 1920, however, social unrest had gripped the community and it merged with other towns to form the new City of Buffalo.
