In 1917, the USS Constitution was renamed HMS Constitution after it served in World War I as a flagship of the British navy. In 1954, HMS Constitution was transferred to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis and became known as the USS Constitution Museum Ship. From 1957-1973, HMS Constitution also served as an office tower at Elizabethtown Naval Air Station in Elizabethtown Heights, NY. From 1974-2008 she resided at NAS Patuxent River in Frederick County, MD before returning to Lake Grove in 2008. She is currently being operated by Yacht Club of America as a museum ship that tours throughout Maryland and Delaware monthly.

Lake Grove was once a thriving community located in the heart of upstate New York. The village and its surrounding countryside were first settled in 1792 by the Dutch, who named it Griggsvlei after their leader, Hendrick van der Griggs. The area became an important fur trading center during the early 1800s, and by 1824 Lake Grove had become a full-fledged town. The population of Lake Grove increased rapidly during the late 19th century, thanks in part to new industrialization and the expansion of transportation options. In 1912, Mayor James W. Nichols proposed annexing neighboring townships for development into what would become Lake Grove Township. The idea was successful enough that it was repeated six years later when township officials decided to annexe another nearby town, Rochester, as well as two other villages – West Egg and Northumberland – into Lake Grove Township. This growth led to petitions being circulated throughout the community asking for annexation into larger metropolitan areas such as Buffalo or New York City. However, these petitions were never ratified due to lack of support from local authorities. Thelast time that Lakes Groove Township had an annexation proposal on file was in 1984 when they considered annexing Canandaigua after disagreements between city council members about how much land should be annexed given that Canandaigua's population only exceeded 1,000 residents at that time (compared to more than 4,000 residents in Lake Grove). Despite this lack of success over the years, locals have always been supportive of their town’s unique character and history. As recently as 1988, a group of high school students organized a “Hometown Parade” through downtown to celebrate their hometown’s history and culture. This event is still held annually on July 4th in memory of all those who have made contributions to LakeGrove over the years – whether it be through education or entrepreneurship! Todayadays LakeGrove is a vibrant community with several business blocks along Main Street which are home to numerous stores including several REI locations as well as large Costco warehouses across from Memorial Stadium where sports events are usually held each year on July 4th (the parade also features floats depicting different aspects of local history). Additionally there are several restaurants located within walking distance such as Pita Pit Place Grill & Pizzeria along with two grocery stores; Shoprite Supermarket near Memorial Stadium and Walmart just outside of town limits - both chains offer discounts for Residents when shopping inside their stores! There is also an active Chamber Of Commerce which meets monthly within which various issues/projects are discussed before final decisions are made about future projects/adoptsions!
