The Coast Guard has been in Lancaster, New York since 1892. The first coast guard station in the town was built on Main Street in 1912. In 1918, a new station was built at the mouth of the Thames River and named after Admiral George Dewey. The Coast Guard Station Lancaster played an important role during World War II as it served as a Naval Air Station. After the war, the Coast Guard Station Lancaster opened up a harbor to provide access to commercial fishing boats and also became responsible for Search and Rescue services. Lancaster, New York is a town in Lancaster County, New York, United States. The population was 2,811 at the2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what would become Lancaster was John Chambers in 1779. The town was platted in 1792 by Nicholas Simonds and named for General James Lancaster who had led British forces against the French during the Seven Years' War. By 1800, Lancaster had a population of 350 people. In 1824, local farmers formed the Mechanics And Farmers Bank to provide banking services to their community. In 1827, a post office was established and named Lancaster after General James Lancaster as part of an effort to promote commerce within the new community. In 1836, the town received a grant from Albany Governor George Clinton for $1,000 towards constructing public schools and churches which would date back to that year's village meeting that discussed creating a school district for all of eastern New York. Lancaster quickly developed into one of the most economically active communities in western Erie County due its location on major transportation corridors including Route 9W and route 8W (the latter now known as Interstate 80). As early as 1840s residents were erecting businesses such as grist mills and sawmills along with housing developments such as Braddock Court and Springdale Place just east of where American Road meets Main Street today. With industry came growth both inside and outside of Lancaster proper; according to one source “Lanark’s influence extended far beyond its boundaries” (Fowler). The town also became home to several important regional institutions like Central Lockwood Seminary which opened in 1850; Albion Teachers College founded in 1865; Presbyterian Ladies Academy founded in 1870;and Eastern State Penitentiary opened later that same year – among many others (Fowler). In 1884 Union Station was built adjacent to US 9W/8W between Main Street & Indianola Avenue on land donated by local farmer Samuel Merrill - becoming one of America's first "modular" stations with multiple tracks capable of handling trains from various parts of America simultaneously (Goudreau). By 1900 there were over 1,500 businesses operating out of 1 square mile within limited commercial limits – constituting one-seventh or more all businesses located within an unincorporated area north OF Buffalo Nationals Park today! This was perhaps the first time that the Coast Guard had received any form of gift from anyone outside of themselves. 2) In 1922, an ice cream cone was donated by Captain John Foyt as part of his dedication to the Coast Guardsmen stationed at Boston's Freedom Trail. This was followed up by contributions from other officers and crewmen in 1926 and 1928. 3) In 1951, a torpedo boat named USS Constitution (CGN-4) was donated to the Coast Guard by its owner, Mr. William Kieft II. This boat had recently been retired from service and needed new home care. The Constitution underwent restoration and now resides at Miami Beach Naval Air Station Museum where she can be visited regularly during public tours! 4) Another significant donation came in 1957 when the United States Navy gave an amphibious assault ship called USS Enterprise (CVN-68). This ship had just been decommissioned after serving throughout World War II as an escort vessel for Allied warships operating off Korea shores. Enterprise now resides at Newport News Shipbuilding & Drydock Co., Norfolk, Virginia where she can be toured on special occasions or used for training purposes!

Lancaster is a town in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 8,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named for Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The first settlers in Lancaster were families from England who came overland through what is now Ontario and New York state in 1684. They built a log cabin on the neck of land that forms the eastern edge of present-day Lancaster. In 1727 John Tryon founded a small post office here with five citizens. Tryon had been sent to America by his friend and fellow Englishman James Hanover as an envoy to purchase additional territory for the British Crown in North America. In 1729 Tryon's grandson, Robert Tryon, organized a group of farmers and settlers to build a new community called Oswego on high ground east of present-day Lancaster near modern day Niagara Falls. In 1756 Sir William Cornwallis commissioned surveyor Edward Brantislaw to map out new townships in Ulster County and submit proposals for their establishment to the Assembly. On December 4, 1756, Queen Anne issued Order No. 158 appointing John Armstrong as Surveyor General for all Ireland with authority "to make surveys and plat maps thereof". Armstrong recommended that Lancaster be included within one of those proposed townships but it was not until 1814 when it was finally granted this status when then-Senator Abraham Lincoln visited Canada and noticed that there were no surveyed townships within Canada's borders that resembled what he saw across Lake Ontario – including Lancaster – so he ordered Armstrong to investigate further into what could be done about creating such an entity within Ulster County specifically for Lancaster purposes A charter was obtained from King George III on March 3, 1814 authorizing The Township Company of New York (later known as The Lennox and Addington Trust) "to erect brick or stone buildings" and provide "such other necessary appurtenances" thereto "…for the Government hundred or boroughs or precincts" located eastward along both banks of Allegheny River "from Lackawannaock Creek unto Towanda", westward along Susquehanna River "towards Scranton"…Allentown…." With this authorization came responsibility for building roads (later becoming highways), burying riverside mineshafts (now preserved under water), creating schools (the first being erected in 1826), filling up ponds where saltpeter production took place (now used as agricultural drainage systems), providing firewood for hams ("haystack" chisels), manufacturing goods such as hats and shoes; purchasing land; granting charters; developing township boundaries; etc., which continued until 1940 when all township functions were transferred to Binghamton City government pursuant to changes made in local government law during World War II Lancaster quickly became known throughout itsTerritory as "The Hub." Settlers began arriving from various parts of Great Britain by boatloads beginning around 1800 while stillutsulating near Lackawannaock Creek where they constructed homes made out of tree branches covered with straw mats which they heated with fires set next open space adjacent cleared farmland . By 1830 most residents had arrived ashore having embarked on ships seeking business opportunities available along both sides of the river . By 1840 only two families remained ashore living primarily off fishing licenses……..In 1844 Hans Janssen established himself as a grocery store owner/ butchering business proprietor….. By 1850 there were twelve stores operating inside town limits…." From its inception until 1840 there appears never have been more than five people living permanently inside any one dwelling within Town Limits….It should be noted however that many early residents did temporarily move around due to lack Of permanent housing options or other personal reasons."
