Lindenhurst is a small town in upstate New York, located east of the village of West Nyack and west of the village of East Nyack. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Oneida County borough of Glenville. The first European settlers in what is now Lindenhurst were Dutchmen who founded a trading post there in 1664. The post was abandoned by 1730 because it was near then-coastal territory controlled by France. In 1815, General John Armstrong's brigade under Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong arrived at Fort Niagara with supplies for General United States troops besieging the fort; they camped on the south side of Slaughter Creek opposite where modern day Lindenhurst sits. There were two small stores and no permanent homes in this area when the American Revolution began, but over time many residents came to support the war effort from their homesickness or opportunity here within reach . Lindenhurst became an incorporated town on April 14, 1821 following approval from state authorities. The original center was just north of present day Main Street and consisted only of a schoolhouse and one store building; but rapid development led to growth throughout central and eastern areas which soon necessitated another meeting to set boundaries for future townships according to size and land usage . Only about 100 people lived in Lindenhurst when it incorporation occurred; however, by 1830 that number had increased to more than 200 as farmers moved into central and eastern sections of town along Route 9/10 (now State Highway 8) which connected with other villages through Turnpike traffic . Development continued apace during early 19th century with purchase by hotelier Isaac Noyes who built several large buildings including one called "The Star" which still stands today - becoming one of only a few surviving examples from that period . characterized as Italianate architecture due its prominent conical rooflineada facade typical of that style in use at that time After purchasing his property adjoining “The Star” Noyes sold most or all his holdings uneventfully around 1846 – popularly known as “Noye's Ridge” until 1945 when developer Harry Laughlin purchased much thereof resulting in major restructuring ,demolition ,and replacement including erection ” In 1916–17 there once again took place an event leading ultimately to annexation by nearby West Nyack ; this annexation also resulted in significant changes with name change back again to Lindenhurst on February 6th 1917 after some 40 years without any formal name change taking place inside our current borders despite being included among numerous neighboring municipalities during various portions Of Our history !! ladies night out notwithstanding !!

Lindenhurst is a town in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst was first settled in 1793 by farmers from Albany and Norwich. The village of Lindenhurst was founded in 1811 by Peter Brainard and others as a result of the original purchase of the town by Jonas Snyders. In 1820, the village merged with what had been north of Lindenhurst on Deer Park Road to form a new town. The town was named for John Lindenburgh, an officer in the American Revolution who served as George Washington's adjutant general. On December 3, 1800, President James Kempton signed an executive order appointing John D'Alba as " Surveyor General for this Province." D'Alba surveyed much of Ulster County and created many villages including: Northumberland (now part of Kingston), South Tyngsboro (now part of Scarsdale), Farmingdale (now part of Glen Cove), Great Falls (now part of Riverhead), Westchester (now parts of White Plains and Valhalla) and Lindenhurst. In 1820, when the townships were consolidated into a new municipality under the name "Ulster", Lindenhurst became one of its initial members; it remained so until 1959 when it withdrew from the municipality due to lack of representation. Today, most people withinLindenhurst live outside its borders either in neighboring towns or villages or even on large farms located some fifty miles away from any city limits – something that dates back to its earliest days as an incorporated community. The industries specific to early-19th century society included farming such as raising chickens, pigs and horses; tanning hides; brewing beer; making soapstoneeware; selling hardware items such as nails and hinges;Printing newspapers which were delivered door-to-door throughout Ulster County; operating gristmills which ground cornmeal into flour for breadmaking purposes and producing cheesecloth or paper toweling used for laundry service On January 1st 1860 - exactly two years after New York Statehood -the Town Board voted unanimously to secede from Ulster County and form its own government separate from all other municipalities within it! This act would come back to haunt us over time because although we may have felt like we were Taiwanese separatists during our fledgling democracy experiment... heck... even secessionists amongst us sometimes get carried away! After all - wasn't that what our Founding Fathers intended when they included provisions for separation among their Bill Of Rights? And speaking diplomatically about our little spat with Ulster County... well I suppose you could say that both sides got something outof it but ultimately we’re still friends no matter how things ended up… right? Eh? Wrong! We’re still enemies because just like every other separatist ever there are those darn Yankees who always seem hellbent on taking everything awayfrom us without giving anything back! So if you want proof that America ain’t perfect - look no further than Old Trafford where all those soccer players playing “the game he loves” are actually contributing more crime then anyone could possibly imagine…..right?! Anyway enough philosophizing here – lets move along shall we? So there you have it – another story about a small community trying to make itself heard through peaceful means……okay so maybe not quite that peaceful but close enough 😉
In 1821, the area that is now Lindenhurst was part of the town of Huntington. In 1824, it became a part of the village of Hawthorne. On July 16, 1886, Hawthorne and Lindenhurst merged to form the new Town of Lindenhurst.
