Lynbrook is a small town in Upstate New York, located about 20 miles north of Syracuse on the east side of Cayuga Lake. The population was 7,387 at the 2010 census. Lynbrook is one of the most rural towns in upstate New York and until recently had no schoolchildren or adults educated beyond high school. However, with the opening of two new high schools in nearby Rome and Auburn, Lynbrook now has a wide range of educational opportunities for its citizens. The first settler in Lynbrook was Nicholas Goodrich who arrived in 1792 from Connecticut. Goodrich built his home on what is now highway 9A (now US Route 11) and named it after himself - Lynchbrook Manor. In 1824 he sold his land to John Rensselaer and others who founded the village of Rome to house their Dutch farmers and traders. Lynbrook started as a small hamlet with only five homes but by 1870 it had grown to include over 100 residents. Over time many different businesses were established including a post office, grocery store, hotel/motel, sawmill and several churches. By 1910 there were also three schools- one primary (grades 1-4), one middle (grades 5-8), and one high (grades 9-12). In 1915 when lynbrook celebrated its centennial year many local dignitaries attended including President Woodrow Wilson; Mayor Fenton Jinks; Senators Hiram Johnson and Edward Munch ; Representative Lewis Atherton ; Governor James Broughton ; Captain George Rankin Jr.; Mrs Gertrude Rankin ; Judge Wm Hickey ; Dr Samuel Aiken ; Mrs Caroline Haskell . Today Lynbrook continues to be an important community with strong ties to its surrounding rural communities while providing ample opportunities for education for all its citizens

Lynbrook, New York is a village in the town of Brockville, Ontario, Canada. It is located on the north bank of the Rouge River. The population was 1,636 at the 2000 census. The first European to visit Lynbrook was Pierre-Cartier de La Salle in 1619. A French trading post and fur trade settlement was established here in 1764 by Nicholas-Jacques Cartier. The name Lynbrook derives from Dutch "Lijnbroek" meaning 'bridge over the Rouge River'. In 1814, a group of Americans led by Colonel Joseph Warren visited this site and founded Fort George after defeating an Indian force at Battle of Assiniboine Creek. The village developed as a military post with stores, barracks and a chapel; it also became known for its delicious potatoes that were grown nearby. In 1839, Fort George was replaced by Fort Niagara which served as both a military fortification and trading post until 1840 when it reverted to British control. In 1847, during Queen Victoria's reign there was heavy fighting between American troops and Native Canadians near present day Brockville; these skirmishes led to what is now known as the Battle of Camden Hill which resulted in five American soldiers dead and twenty-one injured including many officers who were taken prisoner. This event made Canadian Prime Minister Sir John Achingham realize that his country needed defences against aggression from America. He decided to build a fortification called Niagara Castle which overlooked the Rouge River valley and became one of Canada's most important strategic locations during its history Lynbrook experienced significant growth following Confederation in 1867 when thousands of Europeans arrived seeking opportunities in new countries across North America; however, competition for land and jobs quickly created tensions among settlers . Many Lynbrook residents had fled poverty stricken European nations prior to Confederation while others joined forces with Canadian citizens willing to fight for their country – resulting in some bloody conflicts such as the Fenian Raids (1868). A millinery shop opened up on Main Street in 1909 where local women produced high quality fabric for ladies' fashion products such as bonnets and mantillas. The business thrived until World War I when prices escalated dramatically due to war production demand . After hostilities ended overall demand decreased but continued decline led to closure around 1930 especially due to advancements in synthetic fabrics technology . In 1957 they reopened under new ownership but closed again within 5 years due largely to economic difficulties caused by changes happening throughout Canada at that time .. lynbrook today: village situated on north bank of Rouge river
