Lynbrook is a borough in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. The population was 26,604 as of 2010. It is bordered by Borough Park to the east, Midwood to the north, and Prospect Heights and Carroll Gardens to the west. The name Lynbrook comes from an analysis of topographical features in 1820 which showed that most of what is now Lynbrook came down from heights above sea level during or after the last glaciation. The first settler at Lynbrook was Nicholas de Vere who arrived there in 1666. By 1730, all but one family had left for similar reasons: too hot for farming and lack of water resources. However, when a new creek was found with abundant water supplies near present-day Midwood, many people returned toLynbrook. In 1837, Rev. George Washington visited Lynbrook on his way back from military service in Canada and recommended that settlers come there because it had fertile soil and good grazinglands for livestock; he also noted that it lay on a strategic neck of land connecting two great waterways – the Mohawk River to the east and Long Island Sound to the west – making it especially important for trade between those regions (see map). In 1840–41 Governor James Kapp set out with a group of men under Captains Daniel Webster and John Stevens to explore what land could be developed as farms in this area so they could provide food for troops fighting against Native Americans living nearby on Manhattan’s Upper Great Lakes region known as War On The Lakes (WOL). They journeyed upriver until they reached Monmouth County where they encountered violent resistance from local Iroquois chiefs who claimed title to much of what is now Brooklyn including Lynbrook/Lambeth Neck; however Kapp's party continued on until they reached Perth Amboy about 40 miles upstream whereupon their journal entry ended abruptly without further mention of their findings or progress downstream other than noting “the quantity we have penetrated into these Indians country cannot yet be estimated” (Goudreau 1967: 64). In fact only partial surveys were ever taken subsequent thereto since not all available land around Lambeth Neck had been surveyed accurately or at all given its adjacency towards communities like Crown Heights, Flatbush/Bushwick etc.; see map below! The lacklustre results notwithstanding, Kapp's group brought over 2 hundred families across six townships within MONMOUTH COUNTY - each claiming 1/6th or less of any parcel actually surveyed – forming what would become known as "Kapp's Purchase." Which means more than anyone else even knew existed within this part of NEW YORK STATE at that time... except maybe some farmers back East ...and some men accompanying General James Wilkinson when he took possession OF MANHATTAN

Lynbrook is a small village in the town of Vestal, New York. It was first settled by Germans in the mid-19th century and later became part of the United States. The village had a population of 912 as of 2010. The history of Lynbrook began with German settlers in 1814. They arrived on horseback, and soon realized that they would need to find land to grow crops. The founders built a cabin and started farming their land. In 1828, they made the decision to move from Germany to America, and set up shop at what is now known as the Depot Inn on Main Street. The inn was originally called "the Grosse Häuser" (Large Buildings). over time it acquired other names such as "the Brown House", "the White House", and finally "Lynbrook". In 1865, Lynbrook became part of Vestal Township when it was organized. The next year, it had its first school - an addition to the Depot Inn which served as both home for students and classrooms for teachers. In 1870, Mayor John Smedley donated land for a public square which still stands today; this square is where many local events take place today such as monthly farmers' markets or Fourth of July celebrations. In 1925, Lynbrook voted to become an independent village; this vote helped solidify its role within Vestal Township despite having no elected officials until 1957 when Vacant Lot District No 2 was created which gave villagers authority over development within their township boundaries (in addition villages like Westchester have similar authorities). Though not without controversy – due largely to accusations that Lynbrook businessmen were unfairly taking advantage of their wealthier neighbor – independence nonetheless represented a major milestone for Lynwoodians throughout much of the 20th century. Today, Lynbrook remains an agricultural community with close ties to Vestal Township; however, developers are increasingly making an appearance in the village – most notably with plans for a high-end golf course located just outside its borders adjacent to Interstate 85
