In the early 1800s, Massena was a small town in upstate New York. The population was only around 400 people and gun ownership wasn't as common as it is today. However, there were still some gun enthusiasts in Massena who enjoyed purchasing and owning firearms. One of thesegun lovers was John Morse. John Morse was born in 1802 in the town of Westchester County, New York. He started out working on his family's farm but quickly realized that he wanted to learn how to shoot guns. When he turned eighteen years old, John Morse moved to Massena and started learning how to shoot handguns from local blacksmiths. By 1830, John Morse had purchased his first firearm - a rifle! He soon became a well-known shotcaller and hunter in the area. In 1834, John Morse married Anna Maria Deering in Massena. They would have six children: three boys (John Jr., Horace & Harry), one girl (Anna May), and one girl (Fannie). When the American Civil War began, John Morse enlisted as a private with Company K of the 9th Infantry Regiment of New York Volunteers under General Ulysses S Grant on April 14th 1861. He fought at Bull Run where he was wounded on July 21st 1861 and then again at Saratoga where he lost an eye due to a cannonball strike while leading his unit into battle against Confederate forces on August 13th 1861. After the war ended, John Morse decided to stay back in New York City rather than return home to help rebuild what had been destroyed by fighting passions within our society during the Civil War era... however, Anna Maria did decide to move back home with her sons for a time before moving permanently back east with their daughter Fannie later that year when they received word about their son Horace's enlistment with Union Forces for service during the American Expeditionary Force against Mexico known as The Mexican San Francisco Earthquake which took place on October 15th 1862 near Monterrey California after an earthquake measuring 7 On September 25th 1862 little more than two months after his father’s death Horace entered military service as Private First Class / Gunner’s Mate Second Class in Company A / 3rd Battalion / 1st Rhode Island Infantry under Colonel Norton Slocum who served throughout both wars including full combat duty during General Sherman’s Invasion of Georgia which took place November 1864; John Morses son Harry also enlisted for armed forces service shortly after his father did becoming Private First Class Gunner’s Mate Third Class aboard USS Constitution (1865-1866) commanded by Commodore David Dixon Mahan while performing services off shore coasts of Florida Territory during 1865/1866 Western Florida Expedition also manned by PFC Harry Morse Aftermath of World War I: AnnaMaria deered died suddenly 5 years post Sept 25 1862 leaving all 6 children behind minus Horace now 35 yrs old living w/fiancee Augusta Troupsend Depty Of Health In Syracuse N Y & 4 yr old daughter Naomi

Massena is a town in Niagara County, New York, United States. The population was 3,412 at the 2010 census. The town is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Town of Massena was first settled in 1792 by farmers from the town of Amherst and the surrounding villages of North Tonawanda and Clinton. The first courthouse was built in 1801 on what is now Main Street near what is now State Street. In 1827, the town plat was revised to add two more wards: First Ward (now called Easton) and Second Ward (now called West Seneca). In 1830, Third Ward (now called Canastota) was added. In 1848 the Erie Canal was completed through Massena and this led to an increase in business activity which caused many businesses to move into Massena from towns around Buffalo including Canastota, Romeoville, and Dunkirk. A post office was established at Massena in 1849; it remained until 1861 when it became part of Buffalo. In 1865, a schoolhouse/church complex were built on present-day Clay Road for $2 per acre (the land had been donated by John Morse). . . . It burned down in 1865 but later bequeathed another building that still stands today as the Methodist Episcopal Church located behind Walmart across from Subway sandwich shop - one mile east of where massena started out! The first permanent settler in Massena was Nicholas Lowrie who arrived in 1785. The first post office in Massena was established on July 14, 1814. It was renamed to Battle Creek on December 12, 1824. On May 11, 1828, Battle Creek became a town and Massena became its seat. The first store in town opened in 1830. In 1847, Abram Israel Stroud settled here with his family and founded the now defunct Albion Manufacturers' Association which manufactured cloth and other fabrics until 1922. In 1870-1871 Augustus Kelley built an addition to his farm complex east of Main Street that still stands today as the oldest extant building inMassena Township including its original outbuildings (the present day library/community center). The death of President James Kenedy created political instability within New York during the early 1800s so President James Kenedy ordered General Philip Kearny's brigade to cross into Canada for reinforcements without permission from Congress which caused much criticism from many Americans including both Democratic and Republican leaders who felt they had been betrayed by their Commander-in-Chief; this finally led to America's Civil War when Lincoln ordered Kearny's brigade across the border into Maryland where they fought against Confederate forces underGeneral Robert E Lee
