Middletown, New York is a small town in upstate New York on the Mohawk River. It was once a major military and civil center, and has been home to both the United States Army and the New York State National Guard since 1792. The town also boasts one of the most unique gift history stories in the country. In 1792, Middletown became an outpost of Fort George on Lake Ontario after British General John Burgoyne surrendered at Saratoga. The fort served as a garrison until it was abandoned in 1814. In that year, Lieutenant Colonel James Wilkinson donated land for a new military post in Middletown with barracks and stores for 4200 soldiers. The post was named Fort George after Wilkinson's father-in-law, who had also donated land for the fortification of Niagara Falls. The first permanent American troops arrived in Middletown on September 15, 1815 under Major General Josiah Gregg during the War of 1812. Gregg's forces fought against British forces under Commodore Winfield Scott at Queenston Heights before being replaced by Gregg's successor Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Jackson on October 31, 1815. A detachment of 2nd Battalion NY Volunteers under Captain Levi Purdy arrived November 3rd but were forced to retreat after they were outnumbered three to one by British troops at Battle of Oriskany Ridge near present day Buffalo Grove Road in Westchester County (now east suburban White Plains). The 2nd BattalionNY Volunteers participated in two more engagements against British forces during what is known as "the Great Race" – an attempt by American commanders to outstrip their opponents so they could not deploy reinforcements or supplies necessary for an impending battle – before withdrawing from the field January 6th following a defeat at Onondaga Ford north of wherepresent-day Valhalla Road meets Interstate 95 outside Rochester Hills Onondaga Ford was significant because it marked where Brigadier General Sir John Cavanagh decided that he would cross over from Canada into America instead of waiting for help from Admiral Lord Howe; this decision allowed Howe to capture Kingston upon Hull without fighting and thereby win control over much of Upper Canada

Middletown, New York is a small town in the Finger Lakes region of New York. The population was 3,711 as of the 2010 census. It is located in Monroe County and is part of the Rochester metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Middletown was Nicholas Scudder, who arrived with his family on July 4, 1807. In 1830, John Morse moved to Middletown from nearby Dunkirk and started a tannery there. In 1836, Wm. Hickey bought land east of Middletown from Nicholas Scudder for $3 per acre (the price then was about $130 per acre). This parcel became known as "Hickey's Grove". In 1850, Joshua Loring built a log cabin on what is now Loring Road. He named it after his father-in-law Samuel Lansing (1764-1835), whom he had met while serving as an officer in the British Army during the American Revolution. On May 7, 1851, Loring married Sarah Ann Clifton (1784-1867). They raised six children: Lydia A., christened December 12th; Nellie B.; James E.; George Washington; and John Quincy Adams Jr.. In 1860–61 Major General Ambrose Burnside visited Middletown and its surrounding areas during the Union army's invasion of Canada to assess rebel forces gathering There were no buildings or structures standing at that time but evidence suggests early settlers built cabins and barns around their fields in anticipation of building more permanent dwellings when necessary or when their crops grew enough to support them on their own without help from others. That same year saw another large influx of settlers - this time coming mainly from New York City - when Judge Elijah Howe set up shop near what is now Elmwood Avenue between Main Street and North Main Street in what is today downtown Rochester to provide legal services to local farmers during Reconstructiontime following America's Civil War . The earliest documented mention of a post office at Middletown dates back to 1847 when Nathaniel Augustus Strong erected a simple frame structure near present day Broadway and Elmwood avenues which served general delivery until 1861 . By 1860 there were only ten residents living in Middletony with one store operated by Jno Crouse ; three schools operated by Mrs Smith & Bros; one blacksmith shop; one harness shop; two physicians; four mechanics including one doctor free clinic; three churches viz Methodist Episcopal Church (founded 1796) United Presbyterian Church also organized 1796 Congregationalist Church Dutch Reformed Church with Reverend Waite preaching therein moved 1800 Second Baptist church founded by Rev Dr Fenton died soon afterwards burned 1865 Unitarian Universalist Society organized November 26th 1865 rector Jeremiah Norton officiated . The post office continued service until 1862 due to lack of available mailboxes . In 1865 an addition was added to the structure allowing formail Delivery using wagons instead . By 1870 there were twelve residents living in MiddletOWN with two stores open: One operations out side Market Square by Mr Ransom & Co.; One within MarketSquare under new ownership run by Geo Purdy & Sons For many years thereafter both stores operated side by side sharing facilities until separate doors were installed circa 1910 obscuring view behind main facade once door opened

In 1812, when America declared war on France, many people in New York City decided to move south into rural upstate New York so they could fight for their country side-by-side with their friends and family members who lived closer to civilization than they ever did back east! This exodus led to the growth of what would eventually become MiddLETOWN – as more people left Manhattan for rural life (and opportunities!). By 1825, nearly all of the original settlers had died due to disease or battlefield injuries sustained during American wars dating back to Independence War II! These days, visitors can explore some of these old buildings on Main Street while also enjoying various amenities such as restaurants, shops & galleries overlooking downtown Wappingers Falls!

It is located on the southern bank of the Susquehanna River and on the east side of Utica Mountain. The town was first settled in 1795 by Loyalists who had fled from England during the American Revolution. The original name for Middletown was "Dover". In 1802 it became part of newly formed Erie County and was renamed Middletown after Colonel John Middletown, an early settler and member of the county board of supervisors. Middletown has a rich colonial history including meetings with George Washington as well as skirmishes with British troops during both world wars. There are several historical hotels and restaurants in town, as well as a small museum that tells local history in detail about early settlers, businesses and events.
