Mineola is known for its apple orchards and its history as a center for mining and manufacturing. Mines were dug in the area around Mineola beginning in 1825. In 1869, General George Armstrong Custer was killed here while scouting an Indian village near present day Niagara Falls.

It’s amazing how these men and women are often times able to provide not just physical help but emotional support too. We can thankful for their service every time we see them deploy – whether it’s deployed with relief efforts after a natural disaster or deployed on long tours of duty in Afghanistan or Iraq.

Mineola has been a small town in upstate New York since the early 1800s. The town is located on the east side of the Hudson River, about 25 miles north of New York City. Mineola was originally named after Nicholas Montresor, a wealthy landowner in what is now Yonkers, New York. Minesola’s first post office was established in 1802. In 1825, Mineola became the location for the first agricultural fair in Upstate New York and remains one of its most important annual events. Mineola’s rich history can be traced back to when it was settled by Dutch colonists as part of their attempt to gain territory west of Albany, New York. Mineola, New York is a town in Lewis County, New York, United States. The population was 1,915 at the 2010 census. Mineola was settled by Dutch and English settlers in 1766. Mines were found on the property where the town now stands and goods traded through the area attracted investors before the Erie Canal opened in 1825. Copper mining started in 1829 and continued until 1900; coal mining began in 1907 and lasted until 1978. The first post office was established in Mineola on May 10, 1827. The name of the town originated from mines near it called "Mina" or "Milling Point". The first settler to arrive was John Doherty who purchased land east of today's intersection of Main Street andMineola Road from Nicholas Herkimer on December 5, 1786 for £5 per year plus interest payable annually. In 1800 Daniel Dolan also arrived with his family from Ireland and bought land west of Mineola Road from Nicholas Herkimer for £10 per year plus interest payable annually. In 1812 Isaac La Salle acquired about one-third of all present day Mineola Township for $200 from John Doherty as part of a larger parcel he had purchased two years earlier from Stephen Girard including sections within what is now Lewis County. In addition to its rich copper resources, Mineola became an important manufacturing center during the late 1800s due to its production of shoeshine polish (a product then exported), ink cartridges (manufactured here) and other items related to textiles such as fabric softener, dandruff shampoo and toothpaste potential exports becoming self-sufficient by 1899 despite high transportation costs associated with bringing these products back home across country via canalboats transporting cargoes laden with raw materials instead of horses drawn carts or stagecoaches which were more efficient modes then current railroads used today when large numbers are transported this way ebay auctions etc... mineolas early textile industry produced over 1200 jobs before ceasing operations during prohibition.... Copper mining stopped after 1900 but coal remained successful making it one of America’s most heavily mined commodities well into the 21st century A small minority owns major portions of commercial enterprises downtown today including real estate development opportunities some dating back centuries... Today there are many antique stores,, pubs,, restaurants,,,, hotels,,,, banks,,,,etc., adjacent to Downtown that offer unique experiences not typically found elsewhere
