In 2003, Roscoe Griggs bought Morgenthau's from Mario Batali and reopened it under the name "The Waffle House". It continued operations until its closure in 2006 after several years of decline.. In 2008-2009 MtKisco Chamber of Commerce started hosting their annual finger food festival at Griggs' restaurant entitled "Festival Saturday". This event is now known as "MountKiscoCheeseFest." From 2009-2013 MtKisco had its own weekly paper entitled “The Gazette” which was published every Thursday morning at 8am local time (today’s version is published Monday mornings). This weekly paper was folded into The Journal Publishing Company Ltd’s daily print edition on October 1st 2013 however some copies still remain available online @ mtkconline dot com/. Mount Kisco is a small village in Lackawanna County, New York, United States. The community was founded in 1792 by Loyalists from Canada. It was known as "The Rocks" and "The Hill" until 1812, when it became the seat of government for the town of Mount Kisco. In 1814, it became the capital of New York State. The village had a population of 571 in 1900. Its decline began during World War I when many Americans left for military service; however, its population increased during the war because of the influx of soldiers and their families. The village's decline continued after the war; however, it has since recovered somewhat and now has a population of about 100 people.
In 1795, the first permanent European settlement in what is now upstate New York was made on Mount Kisco by the Dutch. The area that is now called Mount Kisco was part of Orange County and at the time it was known as a sparsely populated region. In 1814, following the War of 1812, New York became an American state and Mount Kisco became part of Albany County. In 1827, Albany County was divided into two parts and the western portion, which included Mount Kisco, became part of newly created Westchester County. The eastern portion, which included MountKisco remained in Albany County until its merger with Rockland County in 1898 to form New York City.
