The Newburgh Air Force Base is home to the Eighth Air Force, one of the three wings of the United States Air Forces in Europe (USAF Europe). The base was founded on 1 September 1947 and is located in western New York. It has a population of over 17,000 people and its mission is to support military operations in NATO and partner countries. Since its establishment, the Newburgh AFB has played an important role in American airpower. Its units have been involved in many conflicts around the world, most notably Operation Desert Storm. The Fifth Wing also provides aerial refueling for coalition fighter jets during Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2002, Ninth Air Force was activated at the Newburgh AFB as a result of worldwide expansion of USAF Europe. Newburgh, New York is a small town in the U.S. state of New York. The population was 7,883 at the 2010 census. It is located in Niagara County, on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. The area that would become Newburgh was first settled by Native Americans in the early 17th century. The first European to arrive in what is now Newburgh was Giovanni da Verrazzano, who explored and charted the Erie Canal in 1524-25. In 1664, General John Alain de la Salle built Fort Orange here after capturing Ogdensburg from the Iroquois Confederacy. The fort served as a headquarters for LaSalle's forces during his exploration of northern America and as an offset against French encroachment on Indian land south of Lake Ontario In 1795, George Washington and his army moved east through central New York to confront British forces retreating from Quebec after the American Revolution; they destroyed part of La Salle's fortifications and burned most of Fort Orange before reaching its walls within two days. On July 4, 1795 – also known as "Newburgh's” independence day – Washington dedicated a plaque at the fort memorializing this event: "On this Anniversary we pause to reflect upon how far we have advanced since that memorable day when our fathers placed their trust in Britain’s protection." In 1814, Buffalo Bill Cody founded the Buffalo Bayou Ranchos cattle ranch here while visiting Niagara Falls on his way to visit Canada; he named it after Buffalo Bill's home state (Kansas), which had been won by US troops during World War I over Spain's efforts to retake it from US control following its fall into Spanish hands During World War II, both sides used Newburgh for military encampments; German prisoners were held here until liberated by American Forces on April 9 1945 In 1951–1952,'Operation Diamondback' led to demolition of several homes near downtown due to public outcry over proposed plans for an expressway through downtown; these plans were ultimately scrapped but not before damage caused including loss or destruction of many historical artifacts In 1972–1973,'Dixonization' began with local officials vowing to clean up political corruption throughout Niagara County effective immediately following federal indictments against then-Sheriff James Dolan; this program eventually resulted in more than 1 million pieces of debris being removed from nearly every county office buildings statewide between 1973 and 1990 In response thereto residents started 'Citizen King' movements which advocated for better government transparency among other things

Newburgh is a town in the U.S. state of New York, located on the southern tip of Manhattan Island. It is part of the Albany-Schenectady-Troy Micropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, its population was 51,521. The name "Newburgh" originated from the town's location at one end of an oxcart road that linked Albany and Schenectady with Newburgh on the other side of Manhattan Island (see also: Newburgh Ferry). The first inhabitants were Native Americans who hunted and fished in what is now eastern Nassau County; they soon moved to what is now western Orange County. In 1664, King Charles II granted land to Nicholas Hakluyt for his services as a navigator during his English captivity. The early development of the town was slow due to lack of opportunity and natural resources; however, by 1800, it had become a thriving agricultural village with a market place and two churches. In 1814, when Alexander Hamilton became Vice President under James K. Polk, he purchased 1/4 acre (0.24 km²)of common land at present-day Monument Square for $2 from Ebenezer Parsons for use as a private home and office complex called The White House which later became known as Hamilton Place after him. A year later he sold 2/3 acres (1 km²) adjoining this property to John Jacob Astor IV for $810 per acre ($2 million dollars today). This purchase set off much speculation about whether or not Hamilton had political motives behind it since Astor was then considered one of America's largest commercial interests but few could verify his claim that he only wanted To improve public infrastructure within easy reach—a goal which would eventually be realized via Wall Street and Albany so that wealthy people could traffic through those cities without having to go through old towns like Schenectady or Troy.) In 1827–28, construction began on Clinton Avenue which connected downtown with miles away farms; this road would eventually become one of America's most important transportation arteries because it allowed goods truckloads full loads (30 tons each) from Syracuse down Clinton Avenue instead of going all the way down Broadway where there was no shoulder or safe place to berth them while making their delivery! Today Clinton Avenue remains an important artery in both local commerce and travel routes throughout central NY., During these yearsSchenectady also experienced explosive growth as merchants relocated their businesses here from upstate due primarily to low cost labor available in nearby Buffalo during these times leading up until milling got really expensive around 1850s

The town rapidly grew, becoming an important commercial center and major cultural and political center during the American Revolution. Newburgh was sacked by British forces in 1777 and again in 1780, but it ultimately emerged as one of America's most successful military towns, playing a significant role in both the war effort and postwar settlement. In 1815, Newburgh became the capital of New York State. After years of economic decline and social unrest, Newburgh experienced a surge of popularity following its incorporation into the city of Albany in 1832. However, subsequent urbanization and suburban sprawl have led to gradual declines in population over recent decades; however, it remains an important cultural destination for residents throughout central New York.
