It lies in western Monroe County on the border of Niagara and Ontario counties. The land that makes up North Tonawanda was first settled by native Americans about two hundred years ago. The area now known as North Tonawanda was first populated by the Seneca people. They were later displaced by other Native American groups and others from Europe who colonized this area in the 17th century. In 1814, when General George Clinton moved his military forces into this area after successfully attacking Canada, he named it for himself – North Tonawanda – in order to emphasize its strategic importance to him and his army. In 1832, Governor Nicholas Fenton granted land to David Stephenson and others for development hereabouts. This became known as Stephenson's Fields because much of what is now North Tonawanda was developed there starting in that year. After being unoccupied for several years during the Great Depression, many residents of North Tonawanda decided to move back into their homes after World War II ended and saw an opportunity to rebuild following stringent postwar regulations banning things like farming and industry near urban areas such as Buffalo, New York City and Detroit Michigan which had become post-war boomtowns overnight thanks largely to government investment in those industries throughout Western New York State (the Erie Canal had been completed just a few years before). The town has experienced steady growth since then with recent annexations from neighboring towns including South Nyackhurst (2007), Waterloo (2009), Sleepy Hollow (2011) and even Wanamaker Park annexed last year making it one of only a handful of towns or villages within Greater Rochester that does not have contiguous boundaries with any other municipality or village outside its borders- something which has made life more challenging but also provides opportunities for businesses which are often unable or unwilling to expand beyond their core markets due eitherto geography or regulatory hurdles/penalties/taxes associated with doing so- most notably zoning laws which often prohibit building taller than twelve stories without prior approval from city planners/officials whose jurisdiction includes much of what remains today’s town center&neighborhoods despite efforts by developers over time to “just get around” those prohibitions through rezoning & redevelopment strategies while still complying with all applicable codes & ordinances

The first Europeans to set foot on what is now North Tonawanda were French traders and missionaries in 1724, when they reached the upper Niagara River valley. The town of North Tonawanda was chartered in 1758 and named for John Simcoe, 1st Baron Clinton. It grew rapidly due to its location and trade with surrounding villages. In 1807 it became a part of the United States and continued to grow until it had a population of 507 in 1830. In 1814-1816, during the American Civil War, North Tonawanda sided with the Union side and supplied goods to soldiers fighting on both sides. After the war ended in 1865, NorthTonawanda declined rapidly as manufacturing declined throughout western New York state by way of importation from Canada and other states; however, it has since begun to resurgence as an agricultural center thanks to its fertile soil and good water supply (see list below). Today's North Tonawanda features one high school (Northwestern Adirondack) as well as two small shopping malls which are home to many small businesses locally but also serve as anchors for other retail stores located near them such as Sears/Kmart/JCPenney etc... There are also several restaurants scattered around town including Hooters (closed years ago), Joe’s Pizza & Pasta (closed years ago), Buffalo Steakhouse (closed years ago) etc... Furthermore there is an active community group that provides services like arts & crafts shows at local venues or danceshall nights at various places such as Goodtime Diner etc... Lastly we have some churches that provide services like bible studies or worship services etc... Overall this vibrant community celebrate life through all forms of activities
