The United States Air Force Deployed Gift History in Olean, New York on November 8th, 1944. The fallen soldiers and civilians of World War II were honored with American flags flying at half-mast on the local high school, Veteran's Memorial Park. A ceremony was also held at the nearby airbase to commemorate the contributions of theAAF.

In 1945, the New York Air National Guard's "2nd Battalion, 338th Infantry Regiment" located in Olean, New York was reactivated as the 212th Bombardment Wing. In 1951, the wing became a bomber unit and deployed to Little Rock AFB in Arkansas for Operation Steel Cage. The Wing served in this role untilactivated on 1 May 1955. On 15 October 1955, the wings flying detachment at Kirtland AFB was activated and redesignated as the 210th Bombardment Wing (Heavy). This unit flew Boeing B-52s into Vietnam from Da Nang AB. Thewing also served as an airlift squadron providing cargo and passengers for aerial refueling operations over North Vietnam during the Tet Offensive of 1968-1969. The wing was also responsible for conducting nuclear weapons tests at Ford Island Naval Weapons Station from 5 October 1969 - 30 September 1971. The wing remained inactive until it was reactivated on 1 May 1955 at Olean AFB under command of III Bomber Command Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (AEF) with headquarters moved to Saigon AB on 9 January 1957 after Paris Accords were signed between French and United States governments ending French rule in Indochina. On 15 October 1955 members of the 2nd battalion 338th Infantry Regiment that had been activated at Kirtland AFB when II Bomber Command Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (AEF) merged with I Bomber Command HQ AEF to become III Bomber Command Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (AEW), headquartered at Saigon AB with all commands moving to Saigon on 9 January 1957 following end of French rule in Indochina; 204 Troops Carrier Squadron being assigned thereto replacing original 307th Troop Carrier Squadron which had been disbanded upon merger of I & II Bomber Commands HSAs; units were allotted their present locations within Continental US: 235 F/A-18 Hornets from Barksdale AFB LA replacedDouglas F-4 Phantoms used by 20 December 1954 whenleck arrived therefrom 3 February – 12 April 1956; (1) 306 Sqdn RAF ECM Canons provided gunship escort for C-47 Skytrain transporting President Eisenhower back to Washington D4 March 1956 through 11 November 1956 following his trip to Geneva commemorating 50 years since outbreak of World War II; (2) 312 Sqdn RAF ECM Canons provided gunship escort for KC-135 Stratotanker carrier based USAF supply flights over South Vietnam during Spring & Summer 1960s while USAF made up missing aircraft due to combat or accidents frequently occurring while using RCN/Vietnamese carriers as basescamping sites near Hanoi where crews could rest after long overflights over SVN); 205 TFS Corsairs providing fighter escorts for RF-8 Crusader bombers flown out nightly from Clark Field NV beginning 24 November 1959 operating worldwide primarily targeting Viet Cong forces along Ho Chi Minh Trail including numerous attacks against various Vietnamese military installations inside SVN during late 1960s & early 1970s; On 10 July 1962 elements of bombardment wings stationed at Opna Beach AB ceded control of their respective squadrons flyings supersonic jet fighters equipped with AESA radar systems fitted taxiways onto Republic Of Korea Navy ships moored thereon while they conducted exercises utilizing these ships off Kyunggi Island NP—the first time such exercises have ever been staged anywhere outside US mainland airspace!—during joint military training mission executed jointly by US Marine Corps Forces Korea and Republic Of Korean Navy!
Olean is a town in Chenango County, New York, United States. It is the seat of the Olean School District and is located on the border of Chenango and Otsego Counties. The population was 5,852 at the 2010 census. The name comes from an Iroquoian word meaning "opposite bank of the river." The first settler in what is now Olean was John Fitzpatrick in 1786. In 1824, George Washington's grandson George Washington Forbes settled here and homesteaded land around present-day Buffalo Lake. He named his estate "Olean" after his birthplace in Scotland. In 1825, a post office called Ottica was established at Olean with instructions to process mail for Buffalo Lake residents coming downriver from Canada. But when mail service was discontinued due to Indian warfare in that area, Ottica became unimportant and ceased operations in 1827. In 1828, one James McDermott founded a gristmill on the creek near today's intersection of Oneida Avenue and South Elm Street; it remained active until 1865 when it abandoned operation because of falling water levels due to harsh weather conditions during wintertime. In 1840, another mill belonging to James McDermott's son-in-law David Boice was built about two miles east of where today's Oneida Avenue meets South Elm Street on what are now part of property owned by Theresa Hendrickson and her husband Glen Hendrickson; they continue to use this acreage as their farmstead today. During the American Civil War (1861–1865), much fighting took place around or near Olean between Union forces commanded by Major General Winfield Scott Hancock and Confederate forces under General Robert E Davis; however, no battle occurred within town limits itself.* A small Union cavalry detachment under Captain John Prentice fought skirmishes with Confederate irregulars northwest of town early on July 14th 1861 while besieging Fort Erie* Aftermath showed that only seven men out of over 100 troopers were killed or wounded during this engagement - still an impressive accomplishment for such short notice!* Beyond meremilitary activity however, there were few economic activities taking place within town limits other than some farming which supplemented local subsistence needs††‡*. The United States Air Force deployed a gift to the people of Bahrain in 1949. The gift was an American B-29 Superfortress bomber. This plane was used as a training and bombing mission during World War II. It then spent many years being stored at the Hamilton Air Force Base in New York City before being delivered to Bahrain. The Boeing 747-400 aircraft that arrived in 2003 is currently the only Superfortress left in the USAF inventory.

Olean is a town in the Mohawk Valley of upstate New York. It was first settled by Germans and their Dutch and English allies in 1714, after the Battle of Saratoga. The original name of the town, Algonquian Pemaquid (Algonquin means "the great place"), may be derived from this term. When Olean became part of Albany County,New York during the revolutionary period, its residents voted to change their name to Albany in order to demonstrate their loyalty to the new nation. The town's population increased rapidly following its incorporation as a village in 1852, reaching 100 people by 1860. Olean experienced significant economic growth during the late 19th century due to its location on the Mohawk River and its production of lumber and other goods. However, this prosperity ended with World War I and subsequent economic recession; Olean's population declined from around 1,000 in 1920 to less than 200 by 1930. In recent years, however, Olean has begun to experience resurgence as a center for arts and culture; it has become one of the fastest-growing towns in upstate New York. In addition, Olean is home to several leading research institutions including SUNY Oswego University and Cornell University's College at Oswego Highlands; it also has a growing number of businesses such as The Knoppers Brewery and Tivoli Theatre Company.
On October 26, 1776, the Continental Congress voted to establish New York as a United States Territory. The vote was part of the Organic Act of 1781 and gave birth to what is now New York City. On January 1, 1785, the first U.S. Post Office opened in New York City and remains one of the most frequented destinations in the city today.
