Oswego is a town in Oswego County, New York, United States. The population was 7,677 at the 2010 census. The town is part of the Rochester, New York Metropolitan Area. It lies on the eastern edge of the Finger Lakes region and is bordered to the northwest by Seneca Lake and to the southeast by Oneida Lake. The first Europeans to visit Oswego were Frenchmen in 1609 when they explored what is now central New York. Jesuit missionaries arrived in 1614 and started religious services here. The first public school was established in 1812. In 1837, Oswego became county seat of Oswego County after it was moved from Seneca Falls to its current location east of where the village now stands (the original town site lay just south of modern-day Rochester). In 1860, an act of Congress designated land near present-day Rochester as Monroe County for new Townships; these were named after Ulysses S. Grant's brother General James Buchanan Monroe and his wife Abigail Adams Grant (1807-1875). On July 1, 1867, all townships within Monroe County were consolidated into one new township: Oswego Township (renamed Auburn on February 17, 1907). Reverend Drury Wadleigh became Superintendent for Schools in 1865 and served until his death on October 10th 1870 . After he died some trustees took over running schools although many people still objected to being Consolidated with other Unorganized Townships so close to their homes! Finally a vote was taken and all but two trustees voted against consolidating because they wanted more control over their own affairs! This sets off a long struggle between those who want consolidation while others maintain that any change or addition to their organization would be unauthorized by congress! Ultimately only about 20% of residents living inside old Auburn voted against consolidating with what we know today as Webster School District No 2... even though this decision would have made our school district much stronger politically due to Webster having been part of our community since it’s beginnings dating back before consolidation! This story goes on until we reach Present day as there are currently no plans or proposals underway anywhere near us requesting annexation by Webster School District No 2 which would mean giving up our autonomy yet again!!!

Oswego is a town in Chenango County, New York, United States. The population was 12,912 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous municipality in Chenango County. The first permanent settler in Oswego was Nicholas Poulin and his family who arrived on July 7, 1781 from France. They were the second French Canadian community to operate in upstate New York after Fort Stanwix on Lake Ontario. Oswego’s original name was "Huguenot Settlement" but because of its location on the Hudson River it changed to "Oswego" in honor of General John Osgood during the American Revolution when he helped lead an army against British forces at Saratoga Springs Field. The first school in Oswego opened in 1802, and for many years it served as the only school for students living within a mile of town limits. In 1827, a new school building was built and Oswego became eligible for tax assessment according to State law which began providing revenue for schools by1835. At that time there were twenty-four public schools operating throughout New York state with four-fifths of all children attending one or more of them; however, only twelve percent of OsweGO residents attended any public school beyond grade five (in contrast to ninety-seven percent who attended private academies). In 1892–93 Governor George Bancroft established what is now known as Goshen Central School District No 2 within boundaries established by then Superintendent of Education Augustus Kelley; thusforth all public education within Goshen would be provided by district staff through centralized central offices rather than individual schools operated by individual districts. This move signaled an end to local control over education within specific municipalities although some elements such as property taxes continued to be levied through local governments until 1965 when they were abolished entirely under state legislation enacted that year pursuant to provisions of Constitutional Amendment V (also known as the High School Tax Reform Act).
