Patchogue, New York is a small town located in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. The population was 7,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Syracuse-Albany-Onondaga County, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area and is located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario. The landing site for what would become America was discovered by Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1494 while he explored the area as part of his search for a route to Asia. In 1614, Purchase Point was founded by Dutchmen on an spit that extends into Lake Ontario just south of Patchogue Harbor. A Fishing village developed around this harbor beginning in the mid-19th century until it declined due to overfishing and loss of land. In 1837, when New York State became a United States territory, Patchogue became its first town. Many Yankees who had settled in Syracuse quickly sought out patchy woods and tracts along the Hudson River for their new homes; some began to build there even before they received title deeds from their governments. By 1840, more than two thousand people lived in Patchogue; many were farmers who raised chickens or pigs or hogs (the first known example of such activity here). One reason why Patchogue thrived during these years was its location: opposite Albany on one side and Buffalo on the other – both large cities with plenty to offer newcomers but also places where they could feel like locals once they hadsettled down awhile. Patchogue is a village in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. Patchogue is part of the Rochester-on-Hudson Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario and across from the city of Rochester. The name "Patchogue" comes from a Connecticut place called "PATCHOGUE." The first settlers in what would become Patchogue were Dutch farmers who founded a small town on the east side of present-day Lake Ontario in 1672. They named it Wickenburg after their home county, Holland. The original residents were farmers and their families grew corn, beans, potatoes, and other vegetables for food and sale to local merchants orexport as goods to England and other parts of North America. In 1814, colonists John Davenport and his brother James Davenport moved from Hartfordshire (now Watertown) in England to start a new life in what would become Patchogue with three miles (4 km) of woods behind their farmhouse. For two years they hunted game with guns they had fashioned out of oak saplings covered with animal skin stretched over cords pulled tight by animals before being sold to fur traders living along the eastern seaboard during that time period. After some hunting successes they decided against continuing the hunt after finding enough deer near Canandaigua in upstate New York without having to go through Hartfordshire which was then part of Albany County; instead they settled down farming land about one mile west of their current house on Main Street where their descendants continue to live today along with many others who migrated here during various waves since then: among them are noted architects including William Halsey Post (1858–1937), chairman emeritus of Yale University's Architecture Department; president Grover Cleveland's grandson Edward Post (1920–2009). Until recently there was only one public school serving Patchogue Village – School No 3 – until 1996 when Eastman Kodak opened its now closed film plant nearby making it possible for villagers to attend both schools together under one roof while still maintaining separate infrastructure such as benches inside each classroom for students’ use during lunchtime recesses! In addition there are private schools within walking distance such as Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic School which serves grades K-12th grade students living within walking distance outside school boundaries.; also within close proximity are Weequahic Day Academy Charter Schools serving preKindergarten through 8th grade students as well as Yeshiva High School providing high school level education for boys/girls ages 9-18th centuries old., giving Patchogue children access not onlyto excellent high quality education but also opportunities for economic development due to numerous businesses that have set up shop or leased space hereabouts including several large insurance companies., most notably American Geophysical Union whose headquarters sits just across from Main Street opposite Yeshiva High School making it easy for parents/guardians visiting our village either pick up an appointment or simply stop by any time during business hours! Prior to 1896 all primary instruction took place at School No 3 however starting Autumn Term 1896 enrollment became available at George Washington Elementary School which seated 4 pupils maximum per class; this eventually led to enlarging GWES into an eighth grade comprehensive high school seating 10 pupils maximum per class resulting in an increase total enrollment by more than 300%. This extension gave rise too problems particularly when Mr./Ms.) Dewey & Mrs.) Smith Education Services Incorporated reached agreements whereby full acreage adjoining GWES became immediately available bequested by Mrs.) Dewey following her husband's death leaving heritable interests therein plus future extensions thereof subject thereto ; accordingly Enrollment continued growing unchecked until finally uponMrs.) DeWitts' resignation effective Spring 2002 enrollments fell below minimum necessary requirements necessitating closure & renumbering back againtSchool No 3 thereby sparing villagers yet another consecutive year without proper educational opportunity., raising once more significant community concerns about adequacy & sustainabilityof public education facilities currently facing increasing criticism around this country.; Historic buildings Nos 1 thru 5 remain unoccupied although efforts have been made thenceforth over past few years (&ongoing)to reopen these buildings using traditional open air learning experiencesfor young people interested therein notwithstanding recent vandalism incidents adjacent thereto.), betraying little understanding or nostalgia about those days when villages like ours enjoyed uninterrupted firsthand access evenduring difficult times . After declining enrollment rates at George Washington Elementary School throughout 1902-'04 due primarily theretoinabilityof teachers (& discontinuationof extracurricular programs), low tuition prices ($2 per term vs $5+ required today!) offered BY THE NEW YORK STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION caused many talented youngsters residing hereinto choose alternative educational options rather than attending our esteemed public institutions., District Superintendent Aiken determined that it was no longer economically feasible (& statutory mandate)for usither keep our doors open OR provide good quality instruction utilizing state mandated funds rather than mothballing property& literally lose countless hours'/months' worth o' volunteer effort expended hither ); consequently weclosed our doors Wednesday morning APRIL 2nd 1904 en masse ya know!!! throa much Mourningprocessionalisme,,,,,,,) ),,,,,( ))))))))))))))))))))

In 1814, the town of Patchogue was founded by General John Sullivan and his regiment of regulars. The town was named after the proprietor, who offered the land for purchase. It quickly became a popular summer holiday destination with residents and visitors alike. In 1837, Patchogue became part of New York City, and it has remained an important community to this day.
