Gourmet coffee history in Peekskill, New York can be traced back to the early 1800s when a small community of farmers and craftsmen began growing and roasting their own coffee. The first roasters in the area were Geo. Ayer and Sons, who roasted coffee buttons,amsherds and other products from their farmstead until 1892. In 1898, Dutchman Cornelius Koppers established his own business that became known as Koppers Coffee & Tea. Over time, other businesses followed suit including The Gilded Cage Coffee House in 1925 and The Roastery at Oneonta in 1957. By the end of the 1960s, Peekskill had become one of the leading espresso-oriented communities in America.
Peekskill, New York is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in the Town of Westchester in western New York State. It lies at the junction of two routes, I-87 and NY 9W, east of White Plains, about 15 miles (24 km) south of the city of New York City. As of the 2010 United States Census, its population was 20,868. The first settler in Peekskill was Nicholaso De Soto in 1686. The area that now makes up Peekskill was part of Orange County until 1784 when it became part of Westchester County. In 1814 Peekskill was incorporated as a town under the name "Westchester". In 1898 Peekskill became one of only three towns to be destroyed by fire in New York during the Panic Of 1907. The other two were Kingston and Ossining. The first post office in Peekskill opened on October 10, 1836; it had been established at what is now called Main Street and Third Avenue. The town's first mayor was John Auldshire Jr.. The current Post Office building (built 1909) replaced an earlier structure built around 1800 which burned down in 1840. In 1853 a road from Yonkers to Pekeskills bypassed it so that residents could get to Yonkers more easily via phone line instead of walking or riding horses overland. It closed on July 1st 1971 due to budget cuts brought on by President Nixon's Administration - after serving for 151 years!

Peekskill, New York is a small town in upstate New York that is best known for its Peekskill Film Festival, which takes place every year in late September or early October. The festival features a variety of film screenings, workshops and other events. It has been held in the town since 1978 and it is now considered an important cultural center for upstate New York. The town was first settled by Dutch colonists in 1624. The name Peekskill comes from the Lenape word peck meaning "to pick." The Dutch called the area Patersonstown because they found there were many pears growing there. In 1784, the Moravians moved to Peekskill and founded Cedar Grove Baptist Church there. They built a chapel on Park Avenue and named it Cedar Grove after their Cedar Creek tract of land where they had earlier grown some trees. In 1847, John Morris started marketing cigars in Peekskill. He decided to market them under the name "Johnno's Cigars." By 1850, he had opened a cigar store on High Street and renamed it Morris & Co.. In 1859, he merged with another cigar company to form Johnno's own cigars company which continued until 1912 when it became part of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company. In 1912, J&J Tobacco acquired Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company and changed its name back to Johnno's Cigars Corporation (laterBrown And Williamson Cigars). Peekskill reached its peak as an agricultural community during World War II when over 200 businesses produced munitions including ammunition companies such as Winchester Repeating Arms Company and Groves Manufacturing Company; airplane manufacturer Douglas Aircraft Corporation; artillery producers American Milling Machine Works Inc., General Dynamics Corporation; shipbuilders Bethlehem Steel Corp.; tractor manufacturers Ford Motor Company; cereal producer Monsanto Feeding process plants at Adirondack Arsenal near Saratoga Springs; textile mills including Textile Workers' Memorial Union Local 522 (now AFL-CIO) at Greenpoint Yards; electric power providers Westinghouse Electric Companies (later General Electric) and Samuel Insull Rubber Products Incorporated at Oneonta Junction Railroad Depot before Pearl Harbor made war more difficult for America by imposing quotas on exports from certain countries During World War II not only did Peekskill produce munitions but also food items like flour, milk and butter as well as building materials like tiles used in Japan’s atomic bombing program After the war ended the economy slowed down causing many businesses to close their doors However new companies began cropping up all over the Susquehanna Valley establishing themselves through word-of-mouth promotion while staying open late into night Some examples of these new businesses are: Golisano’s Pizza located next door to JW Marriott Hotel across Prospect Avenue from Interstate 81 while Primavera Bakery continues operations right behind Walmart Supercenter on Route 9 north of I-81 ; Applebees restaurant has been operating since 1984 adjacent to Sam’s Club on Route 9 south of I-81 while Crazy Horse Brewery opened up shop across Main Street from Walmart Supercenter in 2007 just outside of town limits
Peekskill was founded in 1785 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his wife, Catherine de Lafayette. Peekskill's first school was built on the site of present day Union High School. The town started to grow when a canal was dug through it and became an important transportation center for goods coming from upstate New York and points east. The population grew rapidly, reaching 10,000 by 1825. In 1840, Peekskill established its own government with a mayor and five members of the Board of Elections. In 1864, Peekskill became part of New York State as part of the consolidation of Upper Manhattan into one unit. After the American Civil War ended in 1865, Peekskill's population continued to grow rapidly until it reached 30,000 in 1870. Peekskill experienced several decades of decline during the 20th century; however, it regained some stability in the 1970s through heavy investment by businesses and individuals including billionaire Jacob Schiff and real estate developer Sheldon Adelson. During this time period pews were replaced with parking lot spaces and new businesses began to open up such as restaurants and nightlife venues. However, during the 2008 financial crisis many small businesses closed their doors which has had a significant impact on the town's economy
