As the largest and most influential coffee roaster in upstate New York, Peet's Coffee was a driving force in the development of artisan coffee. The company introduced world-renowned roastmasters such as Gary Sauer and Robusto Roasters to the craft coffee industry, helping to change how people perceive and enjoy cups of Joe. With locations in Utica, Rome, Buffalo, Albany, and Niagara Falls among others, Peet's Coffee helped define artisan coffee culture across the entire region. Today, Peet's Coffee is one of the leading names in all things coffee – from its signature single origin roasts to its innovative cafes and restaurants. The history of Peet's Coffee begins with John Peter Zenger (1765-1845), a Revolutionary War veteran who founded what is now Peet’s Coffee on Main Street in Poughkeepsie. He named his business after his mentor and friend Sir George Christopher Peet (1681-1756). After fleeing America during the Revolution, Zenger arrived at Monticello where he found refuge with Lady Mary Christopher (later Catherine) Smith (the widow of Colonel James Smith). Zenger met her while serving as an engineer for General Washington’s army during the American Revolution. She convinced him to move back home to start a new life and started teaching him how to run a business. It wasn't until 1797 that John Peter Zenger opened his first store at 4th & Broadway in Poughkeepsie – one of only two stores operating within miles of each other at that time. In 1804 he relocated his operation to Utica followed by Buffalo in 1806; finally arriving in Niagara Falls in 1808. It was here that John Peter Zenger began selling beans direct from their storage bins on Market Street – quickly becoming an integral part of upstate New York culture. By 1821 he had opening three more stores throughout Upstate New York alone! Over time Zenger developed into one of America’s most respected coffee entrepreneurs – responsible for launching many careers including those of some key figures within both espresso/coffee AND fashion circles: Garrettson Forge Co., Buttonwillow Millinery Co., Peebles Glass Works…the list goes on! In 1907 JohnPeterZenger sold his company outright to Dutch entrepreneur Cornelis van den Bergh Jr.. Van den Bergh renamed it "Peet's" after himself - an act which represented a major turning point for the company as it transitioned from being just another small local roaster into something much bigger than ever before. At this point Van den Bergh had also become headmaster at DePauw University - where he launched what would eventually be called "New World Coffee." This new direction saw Peet's begin developing iconic blends like Christmas Blend #2 ('07), Java Bean #1 ('11), Sumatra Sulawesi '13) etc... These carefully curated blends were critical not only for marketing but also for establishing legacy within the coffee industry overall; still seen today as some of our bestsellers!

For example, the roasting process can vary greatly from one brand to another. Additionally, the beans may be roasted in a specific location or at a specific time of day. Lastly, the brewing method and water used can also affect how intense the flavor and aroma will be. So how do you determine if an artisan coffee is worth your investment? There are several ways to do this: by taste-testing or by considering price points. Taste-testers can simply enjoy a cup of Joe for themselves and provide their own judgement on whether it tastes good or not. Some of the earliest coffee shops in Poughkeepsie, New York were established in 1793. The first coffee house in the town was opened by Nicholas Roebuck and his partners Elias Howe and Ebenezer Cooke. Between 1824-1827, five different coffee houses were open in Poughkeepsie. The Dutchman Johannes van der Kuijlen ran a shop on Market Street from 1795 to 1800. In 1828, John Hoggisted opened a general store next door to the Kuijlen's store on Main Street. The first known espresso machine was built by Giovanni Antonio Canova in 1829 at the corner of State and Main Streets. In 1837, Captain George Bird founded Bird's Coffee House on Main Street near Court Square. At that time, birds were used as part of the name for all types of coffee beans because they roamed freely around Poughkeepsie at that time. From 1840-1857, Gertrude Berenson operated a bakery on Market Street which became known as 'Berenson's Bakery'. In 1865, Mrs Florence Atherton opened her own grocery store named 'Atherton's'. By 1870, there were over seventy-five cafes and restaurants operating in Poughkeepsie with more than one hundred employees serving up various types of coffee including Italian roast and Americano blends. By 1915 there were only six cafes remaining but these had become popular tourist destinations for locals and visitors alike due to their unique architecture and interesting atmosphere which often included artichokes growing wild outside their doors or live music performances happening inside while customers enjoyed their cup of Joe or cappuccino."

Poughkeepsie, New York is a small town in the Southern Tier of New York State. It is located on the eastern bank of the Hudson River and was founded by English settlers in 1664. The name means "vale of hogs" in old Irish. Poughkeepsie was one of three original towns within the present-day town of Albany, and became an independent municipality in 1854. The population was 19,569 at the 2010 census. The history of Poughkeepsie goes back to 1664 when English colonists arrived to establish a fur trading post called Fort Orange on what is now Main Street. They named their new settlement Poughkeepsie after the valley where hogs were abundant, because this was where they found them most easily during the winter months. In 1795, Poughkeepsie become part of Albany due to its strategic location as a key junction on two important trade routes -the Mohawk Valley road from Westchester County down through Yonkers and then across the river to Albany, and then upriver to Kingston and Niagara Falls - making it a valuable center for commerce and culture. During World War II, many American soldiers spent time here before being sent home; some are buried at nearby Fort George Washington National Monument or at Battery Park City's Arlington Cemetery. One such soldier is Sergeant John Fenton who died while fighting with Company E Coy., 7th U S Infantry Regiment (Airmobile), 101st Airborne Division near Dunkirk, France on July 6 1944 while serving as Battalion Commander with A Co., 3rd Battalion 307th Infantry Regiment (Infantry) Combat Command B “H” Troop 555th LIB Badge

As the coffee industry has grown, so too has the demand for artisanal coffee. This is due to a variety of reasons, including the high quality of artisanal coffee beans and the unique brewing processes used by these brewers. One of the earliest examples of artisanal coffee was produced by Luigi Beccaria in 1768. Beccaria was a Italian philosopher and economist who developed anti-slavery measures and believed that society could never be improved without improving its basic needs such as food and clothing. He also developed the philosophy of laissez faire, which means that government should not get involved in economy or business. As artisanal coffee became more popular, there were also attempts to imitate this style. In 1892, Dutchman Gerard Van der Rohe started producing espresso machines using traditional methods such as roasting beans in small batches, boiling water over them to make it foamable, then straining it through a fine mesh strainer) before serving it hot with sweetened condensed milk and ground cinnamon. This innovation transformed espresso into an international sensation and helped spawn both neighborhood cafes (which served prepped drinks) and chain stores (which began selling ready-made espresso). Poughkeepsie, New York is a city in the U.S. state of New York and the seat of Jefferson County. The population was 506,824 at the 2010 census, making it the second most populous municipality in New York after Manhattan. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Poughkeepsie were French traders and missionaries who set up trading posts along the Mohawk River in 1614-1615. The English explorer John Smith discovered Poughkeepsie on December 12, 1712 when he passed through what is now Niagara Falls while exploring westward from Albany Province into Canada. In 1764, General George Washington established Fort Niagara here as part of his military strategy to protect British possessions in North America during the Seven Years' War. Poughkeepsie emerged as an important center for American commerce during the early 19th century due to its location at one end of a major trade route linking Erie with Boston and Philadelphia via Kingston and Albany respectively. This road supported many mills and factories that produced textiles, lumber, shoes, hats, cigars, opium and other goods before transportation became available over railways later in that century. At times Poughkeepsie rivaled or even outshone Buffalo as America's leading manufacturing town; however this rise would come to a halt following World War I when defense spending shifted away from munitions production towards more peace-time oriented endeavors such as highway construction and agriculture development; Poughkeepsie ultimately lost its status as an industrial center by 1950. Since then much has been done to revive downtown business district including installations of new public works infrastructure such as a pedestrian mall known locally simply as "the Mall" which opened in late 2006 adjacent to Memorial Stadium; several large mixed-use projects - such as One Financial Place (now One West Plaza) - have also been completed since then furthering downtown redevelopment efforts which have helped attract attention from both private developers and foreign investors intent on establishing real estate operations inside India's largest metropolitan area – currently home to some 120 million people - within easy commuting distance of various major urban centers worldwide including Mumbai (Bombay), Beijing (Beijing), Kuala Lumpur (Kuala Lumpur) & Singapore City – all without having to leave their comfortable suburban residences!
