The history of coffee in Rockville Centre, New York goes back to the early 1800s. In 1824, Nicholas-Jacques Conte and his brother-in-law, Pierre L’Enfant, founded a small coffee house on Lexington Avenue in what is now the heart of Rockville Centre. The first espresso was brewed at this location in 1827. The Conte family continued to run the business until it was sold to Julius Rosenwald in 1951. Rosenwald donated the business to the Town of Rockville Centre in 1957. Over time, many other businesses have been located at or near Lexington Avenue within Rockville Centre boundaries. Today, there are several cafes and restaurants located within walking distance of each other that offer delicious coffee drinks and snacks from morning until night. It is part of the Lower East Side and has been home to many famous people including Einstein, Freud, Mayer Amschel Rothschild, and Benjamin Franklin. Rockville Centre is also known for its annual ice rink which is one of the largest in North America.

The Dutch East India Company (VOC) began trading with Java in 1602 and soon started importing coffee from Indonesia. In 1611 the VOC built a warehouse at Coertepec on the Pacific coast of Mexico to store its cargo of java beans. From here, traders travelled up and down the Mexican coast selling Java beans to indigenous communities and Europeans. Spanish missionaries also began buying Indonesian coffee from the VOC for export to Spain during this time period. In 1795 French explorer Pierre-Jacques Conte discoveredJava Coffee while sailing through Southeast Asia on his way home from India. He named it after his find – Java Annuities or Javabeans – which he sold to various buyers around Europe as trade goods throughout his travels. By 1796 Dutch trader Hendrik van Kooyen had also begun exporting Java Coffee to Britain and France as well as North America via Manila Bay. The Dutch continued shipping Java Beans all over Asia until 1903 when they decided not to continue doing so due to World War I restrictions on spice exports

It grew rapidly thanks to its location at the junction of two major highways, the Holland and Turnpike and the Erie Canal. The population reached 6,000 by 1830. After America entered the war on September 2nd 1941, factories closed in New York City as millions of dollars were pulled from the city's coffers to support our country. In 1944, President Franklin D Roosevelt created the National Defense Council (NDC) which would lead all United States military activity and strategy. The NDC was chaired by Admiral Chester Nimitz and included representatives from both civilian and military leaders including FDR himself Rockville Centre played an important role in this time period as it became home to many of America's top defense officials including Vice President Harry Truman who served as executive secretary for munitions control during World War II The borough continued to grow through the postwar years until 1960 when it joined with other municipalities within New York City to form Park Slope which would later become Brooklyn Rockville Centre has experienced many changes throughout its history but one thing has never changed: its status as a center for commerce and industry
The town of Rockville Centre, now in central New York, was first settled by the Dutch in 1614. It became part of the British Empire in 1801 and was renamed Kingston-upon-Hull after the city in Yorkshire, England. Rockville Centre was incorporated as a village on November 3, 1867. The village had a population of 1,429 according to the 1880 census. In 1898 it became an incorporated town and had a population of 12,419. The post office at Rockville Centre opened on July 25, 1898.
