The history of coffee in Rockville Centre, New York goes back to the early 1800s. The area was first settled by Dutch farmers and their descendants, who grew coffee beans and traded them with other areas of the colonies. In 1820, a small grocery store was opened in what is now the basement of the Rockville Centre Library. Coffee began to be sold at this store as well as other local businesses. By 1860, a large plantation had been built near Glen Cove in Nassau County and several hundred Dutchmen were employed to cultivate and process coffee for market. In 1875, a group of Italian immigrants founded Rome's first Italian-owned bakery on Union Street in Rockville Centre. This business became known as "Rome's Best Coffee House" because it sold the best quality coffee from its own roasting facilities. Over time, other Italians started owning or operating businesses within the town of Rockville Centre. By 1903, there were over 20 cafes and restaurants inRockville Centre alone! Coffee continued to play an important role in Rockville Centre throughout the twentieth century; many residents still enjoyed a cup of joe during their morning commute or after work. In 1979, RJR Nabisco merged with advertising giant Wernher von Braun & Co., which led to increased sales for both companies' products statewide. This saw an increase in visitation to local Starbucks locations throughout New York City as people discovered how great roasted coffee could taste!
Rockville Centre is a borough in the New York City borough of Queens. It was formed from part of the former Village of West Farms and was named for American rock guitarist Robert Johnson. The population was 39,563 at the 2010 census. The Borough has two wards: Rockville Centre (i.e., the portion within the boundaries of Rockville Center) and Baldwin Hills/northwest by northwest Jamaica (i.e., all of what is now northcentral Jamaica). The first European settlers arrived in 1624 when Dutchman Hendrick Pauwels landed at Gravesend with his wife and four children. He established a small trading post on Long Island Sound, called "Pauwelslandt", which he renamed "Westertschelde". In 1627, Wallenstein's army invaded New Netherland and conquered most of present-day Queens County, including Westchester County; Pauwels sold his land to the Dutch East India Company, who renamed it "Netherlandssche Zee" or New Netherland Bay. In 1629, English colonists began to arrive on Long Island via Amsterdam shiploads, settling around Newtown Creek near what is now Midtown Manhattan. The English name for this area was "New Townshend", afterSir Nicholas Noyes'. By 1638 the English had replaced Dutch words with their own: "New Netherland". In 1764 John Stevens founded Princeton University in Princeton Township; one year later he donated land comprising present-day Nassau Street between Broadwalk Avenue and Flatbush Avenue to establish Nassau Hall as the college's initial campus buildings were built there (the current building dates back to 1872). On February 12th, 1768 – two weeks before Confederation – British troops under General George Washington captured Fort Orange on Governors Island in Lower Manhattan during Battle of Bunker Hill; afterward Fort Orange became known as Crown Point because its fortifications—including a large powder magazine—were still remaining after America's independence from Great Britain was celebrated on July 4th that year. On November 3rd, 1794 – five years following American independence from Great Britain – Rockville Centre became part of newly created Kings County when parts of Brooklyn were annexed into Queens by royal decree as part of King George III's efforts to solidify British control over eastern New York after American independence was recognized throughout North America by His Majesty's Government through his proclamation dated December 13th that year. A new courthouse stood outside downtown Rockville Centre until 1900 when it burned down due to an arsonist fire and it reopened in 1901 as Nassau Hall Courthouse which eventually closed again in 2006 due to budget cuts but reopened once more in 2013 as Wexford Courthouse next door which currently functions as offices for Department Of Motor Vehicles & also has functioned as home court for many high school students since 2014 thru 2020 while they are attending Our Lady’s High School located acrossumenave Road from Wexford Courthouse while they are attending class inside Wexford Courthouse gymnasium aka “The Queen’s Gym”

It is named after Rockville Pike in Maryland and Rockville Center, an interchange on Interstate 87/U.S. Route 9W. The town was first settled by Scots-Irish settlers in the early 17th century. In 1814, it was chartered as a village under the name of Newtown but reverted to its original name in 1836 when it became part of the newly formed county of Westchester. It had a population of 5,711 at the 2000 census and 14,824 at the 2010 census. In 1907, Rockville Centre became one of two towns within Westchester County (the other being Valhalla) that adopted Republicanism as their political party preference; both towns remained Republican until 1964 when they joined Democratic control as part of the new county government which merged with New York City in 1898
