As Rye, New York became known for its coffee, it was also home to one of the most important artisanal coffee roasting companies in the world. Founded by two businessmen, John and Alice Kapp, The Kapp Coffee Company was a major player in the industry before World War II. Their roast-houses were located in downtown Rye and on the border of Watertown and Kingston. The company produced more than 1 million pounds of coffee per year during their time as an independent business. The Kapp Coffee Company is considered to be one of the pioneers of Spanish-roasted coffee because they started roasting beans from whole beans rather than ground up coffee plants. They also pioneered methods such as prepping beans using baking soda and baking powder before pressing them into cups or jars. After World War II, John Kapp passed away but his son Alice kept the company going until her death in 1973. Today, The Kapp Coffee Company is still a prominent force within the community with multiple locations across New York State and internationally.

They were followed by their families and friends who enjoyed a cup of Joe at their favorite spot. Rye, New York is a town in western New York state. The population was 5,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Saratoga County and the largest city in that county by population. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Rye were Dutch settlers in 1614. The name "Rye" was derived from an Algonquian word meaning "broad meadow." In 1837, John Fenton bought the village of Rye from its proprietor, Samuel Washburne. He named it after his uncle and guardian Richard Fenton who had died young in 1795. In 1875, George Ayer erected a printing press on West Main Street which became known as Ayer's Gazetteer of America. This was followed by a store on East Main Street (now Erie Avenue) which became known as Ayer's News stand or simply as "Ayer". Late in 1876, Alfred Thayer installed electric lights at the old courthouse site and this led to the first businessjoint venture of rye farmers with manufacturers - Thayer & Chenault (later renamedThayer-Chenault). This company manufactured goods such as shoes and machinery for mill owners around the central New York area including Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse. The post office at Rye dates back to 1795 when it was called Newtown but changed its name to Rye on July 1st that year due to strong competition from other villages with similar names throughout upstate New York. On December 6th 1861, Ezra Taft Benson designated Rye as the county seat for Saratoga County following its creation from part of Sullivan County when that county was divided into two parts based on population size – Saratoga County comprising 5 Towns including Rye had 784 residents while Sullivan comprised only 4 towns with a combined populace of 1,362 residents making it evenly split between 2 counties despite being larger than both places! On September 14th 1865 rye farmer James Purdy built a log cabin near present day Mohawk Boulevard east of Interstate 95 where he later lived until his death in 1944; today this section of I-95 bears his name.. On October 15th 1865 Isaac Hale posted notice on an adjoining hill offering free land for sale within 3 miles radius surrounding present day downtown Hastingsburgh; within 2 months over 100 applications had been received and 25 parcels were sold totaling 640 acres including much laterpresent day downtown Hastingsburgh! During Reconstruction various stores were opened such as Denny's restaurant located opposite interstate 95 south of town limits serving local customers until rehabilitation efforts began in earnest following passage of National Prohibition decree effective January 30th 1933 before all alcohol sales ceased statewide effective February 28th 1933! Additionally several small businesses operated during prohibition like Henry's Tavern located across from I-95 northwest corner past present day Uniondale Road just outside modern day Hastingsburgh borders served mainly gamblers along with several Chinese restaurants also running without government regulation during prohibition days especially notable Tomahawk BBQ restaurant located off I-95 about midway between currentday downtown Hastingsburgh entrances serving travellers passing through nearby Utica beginning about 1945 complete banishment by US military forces shortly thereafter ending all restaurant operations prior to reopening under new ownership soon afterwards becoming one major tourist attraction today! Postwar years saw many changes with most notably large waves OF development taking place recently adjacent northwest sideformerly rural property/roads leading southeast into town Limits forming enclosed Corridor offering excellent views straight out onto Lake Ontario Comprehensive plan adopted November 12th 2001 resulting extensive redevelopment undertaken primarily centered around providing high quality sustainable jobs focusing principallyaroundQuadrant Park Blocks directly involved included significantly expanding existing amenities resultant significant increasein overnight stays resulting positive community impact

Rye, New York is a town in Ulster County, New York, United States. The population was 4,898 at the 2010 census. The town is on the Erie Canal and is bordered by the towns of Lockport and Tonawanda to the north, Niagara Falls to the east, and Buffalo to the south. Rye's name means "happy place" or "peaceful territory." The first European settlement in what is now Rye was made in 1714 by Captain John Smith when he led an expedition from Newfoundland overland. In 1724-25, William Tryon founded a small trading post here after his victory at Ford’s Ford in Canada against the Seneca Nation. Tryon named his new post for Sir George Washington (the first U.S. president), who had been victorious at Saratoga in 1777. In 1806-07 called Canandaigua Landing on Loch Leven after General Anthony Wayne's abortive attempt to open up this section of Ontario Province as a road through central Canada via present-day Niagara Falls crossroads; it became known as Canandaigua Landing because General Wayne's brigade camped there during their march across that area from Fort Erie on Lake Ontario westward to take position along Lake Champlain before Napoleon's invasion of Europe During its early years Rye served as headquarters for several frontier units including one under Major Amasa Walker during Robert E Lee's raid on Petersburg Heights which occurred nearpresent day Rochester Hills On July 1st 1898 two hundred thousand people participated in a great patriotic rally at Main Street Park adjacent to Peconic Bayou opposite West Hill Road corner where they then proceeded en masse down State Street past Federal Hall into downtown where they convened outside Independence Hall – America’s First Capitol The following year rye also saw heavy fighting with Brushy Creek Bridge across Buffalo Creek resulting from hostilities between American Indians and British Militias over control of this important watercourse; this bridge eventually gave way due to corrosion) On October 15th 1899 US Marines landed ashore at Morehead Islet off Long Island Sound beachhead pursuant to President McKinley’s Proclamation providing them with operational status for protection againstpiracy; Marine Lt Col Charles Wertz established an infantry battalion here later designated 5th Marine Regiment effective November 25th 1899 In 1916 Rye united with Tonawanda Township forming part of newly created Buffalo County Rye Chamber of Commerce Incorporated number 653 occurs prior thereto having been chartered December 2nd 1914 by Honorable James Fenton Rhodes Governor Of New York With full power To promote manufactures good therein And make attachments thereto Congratulatory Address Entered Herewith

Rye became an important center for wheat production in Upstate New York and it remains so today. The first mention of rye bread comes from 1595, when Giovanni da Bologna wrote about how to make "ricotta" (a type of cheese). Bologna called this mixture ricotta alla rosa, or rose-ricotta cheese. This recipe involved baking the ricotta until it was soft and then adding pink coloring to give it its characteristic color. In 1792, George Washington tasted rye bread at Mount Vernon and said it was "excellent." In 1821, Congress passed a law making rye bread the national food of the United States.
