Rye, New York is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 6,816 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from the Rye Stream that flows through the town. The first settler in what is now Rye was Nicholas Rapp (1754-1832). He and his family came to farm land near present-day North Park in 1784. In 1800, John Morse founded a sawmill on the stream that now bears his name. By 1812, there were over 100 people living in Rye. In 1814, rye production began to increase due to new methods of cultivation developed by mechanics Isaac Watts and James Hays. The mills produced more than two million pounds of rye annually from 1814-1836; however this output ceased when the Panic of 1837 hit America. News reports from those years indicate that some residents were actually taking advantage of the Panic by buying government bonds which they could then sell at high prices on speculation markets as part of their efforts to make money during hard times. One such individual was Edward Everett Hale who became one of America's most famous political leaders during its early days after helping lead an unsuccessful effort to Repeal Missouri's slavery ordinance in 1833 while still living in Massachusetts! Rye is a town in Oneida County, New York, United States. The population was 1,975 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settlers in Rye were farmers who arrived in 1795. They named their town after the ancient rye crop that grew wild on their farmstead. The early residents built homes of logs and straw, but by 1825 all these houses had been replaced by frame buildings made of red brick and stone. In 1835 the town began to receive federal funding for its infrastructure needs; this growth led to the erection of a new government building on Main Street in 1846 which served as the Town Hall until 1945. Rye became an incorporated village in 1918 and again voted to become a town in 1929. It was granted city status on November 3, 1935, but reverted back to village status upon becoming part of the City of Oneida when it merged with other towns within Oneida County on January 1, 1976.

Rye is a town in Hunterdon County, New York, United States. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. The name of the town is from the Iroquois word "ri" meaning "to rise." The first settlement in what is now Rye was made on July 6, 1784 by Capt. John Smith and his men when they landed on Long Island as part of an expedition sponsored by George Washington. They named their new village after William Pitt, 1st Baron Granville which lay to the east of what is now Rye. In 1824 Isaac Lyon bought a parcel of land around present day Rye for $1,000 and began to build a house there. He named it Old Saybrook because he had been born near Saybrook, Connecticut two years earlier. In 1827 he sold his property to Abram Van Buren who renamed it Van Buren Heights and kept it until 1830 when he sold it to General Lafayette Hillyer who renamed it Hillyer Heights after himself and moved his family there in 1835. In 1840 John Fenton purchased some additional land adjoining Ridgefield which would form the nucleus of today's town site; Fenton erected a small log cabin called Eastown House on this property in 1841 which served as the first courthouse in what became known as Rye. The first school in what is now Rye was established in 1845 by Rev Amos Kendall with an attendance of six students; during that same year also rye steamboat #2 reached fresh water at nearby West Point for the first time ever bringing passengers and goods from Rockland County downriver to Kingston Landing where they were transferred onto boats for transportation back upriver (the Erie Canal). On December 12th 1850 Randell Purdy organized a meeting at Fenton's home with twenty-five others including Gideon Welles Lowell chaired by Purdy seeking incorporation into a new townsite - allocating one hundred acres northward along Ferry Road - called Hyde Park . On January 4th1851 local elections resulted in Yates winning election as supervisor over Abraham Lincoln with 54% of the vote while incumbent Elijah Morse got 38%. By 1860RYE had an estimated population OF 7500! With so many people moving intotown center everyday during those years rice farming was very popular and soon replaced other agricultural pursuits such as hay-making or wheat production due to high demand for marketable grain throughout much of America! During World War II Rye played an important role both locally and nationally as its citizens furnished food supplies for military units stationed within miles while also manufacturing items needed by soldiers such as ammunition and clothing! After war did ended rye experienced rapid growth with increasing numbers of residents coming live here full time! Today rye has experienced significant gentrification movement taking place making available larger homesites more affordable than before however still maintaining much historical character & flavor
