Scarsdale, New York is a small town in upstate New York. It is located on the southern edge of the Finger Lakes region, about 15 miles (24 km) east of Rochester and 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Syracuse. The population was 7,500 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1828 by farmers who came from Schenectady County, New York. The name "Scarsdale" comes from a branch of the Mohawk people that lived in what is nowAnthonie Township, Scarsdale County. The first settler was John Purdy. The town changed hands several times during its early years before it became part of Buffalo Township in 1854. In 1868, it passed to Marcellus and Erie Counties as part of a larger change in boundaries caused by the American Civil War. The village of Scarsdale started to form around 1900 when people began to move into the area from other parts of upstate New York and beyond. A post office called Scarsdale was established in 1828; it was discontinued in 1892. The first store opened in 1830; it closed after a few years because no one wanted to open a store near where they were living already established by residents elsewhere in the community. A school opened for students on Main Street in 1840; it closed shortly after because there were not enough students to warrant setting up classes indoors outside during winter months. A church also opened for services beginning in 1840; it also closed shortly after due to lack of participation from local citizens or finances concerns related to construction costs exceeding expectations). In 1881, an act providing for township government within Buffalo Township took effect and center stage for much discussion within the community center with members heatedly debating whether or not this should be done since most Germans who inhabited central Upstate NY had leftappaing their homes en masse following Germany's defeat at World War 1 while many others had followed those same refugees westward into OntarioL Canada desired some control over these areas which bordered on their homeland so they could maintain social cohesion despite German cultural values being dominant among them

Scarsdale is a small town located in Oneida County, New York, United States. The population was 9,663 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Syracuse-New York metropolitan area. The village of Scarsdale was first settled in 1795 by men from what is now Albany, New York. The village name was derived from a word meaning "scarred or scabbed" (sarcasticall). In 1814, the village passed to Yates Supervisor George Yates and Samuel Hogg as part of an exchange of land between the two towns. The new trustees were John Eliot and Philip Hitchcock. In 1847, Scarsdale became one of twelve towns in Oneida County to be created when it was detached from Yatesville and consolidated with other settlements around it during the Great Famine. The town's namesake came from Revolutionary War veteran General Nathanael Greene who named his farmstead for Colonel John Dobbins (the hero of Saratoga), another leader during that war. Colonel Dobbins had been aide-de-camp to General Washington on his retreat through New York after Battlefields at White Plains and Ticonderoga; he also served as quartermaster general during the battle campaign in Canada known as King's Victory. At its peak in 1830, Scarsdale had a population of 3200 residents and consisted mostly of farmers along with a few mechanics and traders who conducted trade within the limits set by their respective jurisdictions including those within Oneida County itself which catered to millers, lumbermen and farmers east of Seneca Lake while westward settlement increased reliance on distant markets for goods such as flour produced by mills near Niagara Falls. This isolationism notwithstanding, Scarsdale enjoyed some notoriety due to its proximity to both Syracuse University and Buffalo – each drawing students & professionals looking for opportunities at either institutions despite being hundreds or even thousands miles away from home – until railroad transportation made these distances irrelevant decades later In 1875 however when Erie Railroad built through town they quickly brought industry roaring back although manufacturing employment did not appreciate margins much beyond basics like clothing & shoes making technology imports morepalatable then They closed down textile mill but kept foundry open which became local manufacturer today producing many products used world over For 50 years prior there has been only 1 grocery store moving into town 2A drugstore closed while post office moved out
The town of Scarsdale, New York was first settled in 1784 by Nicholas Scarsdale and his wife Judith. The town was named after Nicholas' father, who had also settlements in the area. In 1825, the village of Scarsdale formed from part of the township of Westchester and became a separate municipality. The village remained an incorporated municipality until 1922 when it became a local district within the new county of Sullivan. On January 1, 1927, the district was reclassified as a borough within Sullivan County.
