During World War II, many people worked at various sites around Spring Valley including factories that produced munitions and vehicles used by the military. After the war ended, some of these workers returned home while others continued their work at various companies until they retired or left America altogether.

In 1776, during the Revolutionary War, the British attacked and burned down the Lenape village in what is now Spring Valley. The town was founded in 1814 by Captain John Stevens and his wife Deborah. In 1847, the county of Ulster was created from part of New York State and Spring Valley became one of its many towns within it. After the war, Spring Valley bounced back slowly but steadily through the late 20th century until a combination of economic problems and suburban growth forced it to lose some of its early success.
