Spring Valley was a small town in the Catskills of New York State. It is now part of the City of Schenectady. The community developed around springs that flow from hills in the town. The first spring was located on what is now Route 13. In 1793, a group of settlers founded the village of Utica on the site of Spring Valley. They named their new village after President George Washington and his daughter Martha Washington. The post office at Spring Valley was established in 1810, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1857. As early as 1793, pioneers had recognized that springs came to Springsville from high hills near Utica; they named the stream "Spring" because it ran so quickly through these hills without overflowing any time or space. From its location on Ridge Road (now Utopia Boulevard) southeastward along present-day Routes 13 and 15 until settlements could be made further west activity occurred mainly around two wells – one being located about a half mile northeast of present day junction with Rte 13 (near where Utica stands today), while another well stood about five miles northwest cornering Ridge Road past modern-day Cayuga Heights for over 40 years before finally failing due to depletion about 1840s; both wells are still visible today from roadside drives east into Utica proper: One especially striking example can be seen from Blenheim Highway just northwesterly beyond modern days Sayre Village limits towards Saratoga Springs., showing evidence above surface even up to 100 feet deep where only surface layer once existed
