The New York Air National Guard's 1st Squadron, 142nd Fighter Wing is the largest squadron in the New York ANG and operates Lockheed F-16 Fighting Falcons. The wing was established on July 1, 1958 as a result of a merger between the Fury (A-4E) and Thunderchief (F-5E) Squadrons. The 141st Observation Group flew the A-3E/F2H Phantom II until it was replaced by an RF-101C Starfighter in late 1978. The 1st Squadron, 142nd Fighter Wing flew F-15Cs until their retirement in 2000. In 2003, they were given new F-16s to fly.
Suffern, New York is a town in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 11,845 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest town in New York State. Suffern was first settled by Dutch and English colonists in 1664. The name "Suffern" was given to the town because of its location on a small creek called Suffer Creek. In 1814, suffern became part of the newly formed Ontario County when that county was created from parts of Albany and Saratoga County. In 1850, Suffern had a population of 753; it declined to 521 in 1860 and 471 in 1870 but increased to 10,886 by 1880. In 1902, Suffern amalgamated with neighboring Auburn (now part of Yonkers) to form what is now known as Orange County. The community has been home to an agricultural industry for more than 100 years; today most jobs are associated with services such as retail or health care providers. One important aspect of the local economy has been its significant timber holdings which have been used for pulp production and other purposes since the early 20th century.

Suffern, New York is a town in Ontario County, New York, United States. The population was 5,683 at the 2010 census. Suffern was founded in 1814 by Scots-Irish settlers as Belleville and named for its founder, James Suffern. In 1828, the town changed its name to Suffern after General Ebenezer Howard's victory over the British at Saratoga Springs during the American Revolutionary War. On July 1, 1861, Suffern become a village when it merged with neighboring villages of Unadilla and Westbury. The towns of Belleville and Unadilla were disbanded in 1922 and 1984 respectively. The name "Suffern" still appears on some business cards and other items from that time period

The town was formed from part of the village of Suffern and became a borough on January 1, 1912. The Lackawanna Railroad reached Suffern in 1834 and helped to revive the local economy. In 1865, suffern was made a city by act of the New York State Legislature. During World War II much of the manufacturing industry leftsuffern for wartime production in other parts of the country but some businesses such as General Motors remain today. In 1951 suffern merged with nearby Unadilla to form one municipality called Suffern-Unadilla which still functions as an independent community today
