One of the regiment's officers, Colonel John A. Kellogg, donated an armory to the town in memory of his fallen comrades. The armory served as a military post and later became the headquarters for the 1st NY Volunteers Brigade which fought in World War I. In 1922, Suffern's mayor donated an additional building to be used as a municipal hall. The structure was renamed after General George Smedley Butler who had commanded both Union and Confederate forces during the American Civil War. In 1941, Suffern became part of New York City and since then has become known as one of its most vibrant communities with a rich military history dating back to before America’s founding days. In honor of this history, every year on November 11th – Veterans Day – members of New York City’s military community gather at Kresge Park for an event honoring those who have made sacrifices for our country. This year’s event will include displays from local organizations dedicated to veteran support and education opportunities as well as presentations from generals and admirals about their experiences serving our great nation abroad or leading troops into battle on U.S soil. As always, there are also numerous food trucks available for purchase from various vendors throughout Kresge Park; all proceeds benefit veterans' charities throughout Queens County!

The first American forces landed in New York on September 17, 1664, during the English Civil War. The land was given to the Dutch for sale and a company of New Netherlanders was organized to fight for the Dutch against the English. The first battalion of Company A was formed in 1665 and fought at Fort Orange in what is now Albany County. In 1666, units from both Companies A and B were sent to meet with General Monmouth at Saratoga after he routed a large English army there. The next year, when England declared war on Holland, all Dutch colonists in Ulster Province volunteered to become British subjects. In 1672, Company C of the New Netherlanders was disbanded because its members had been drafted into the Union Army under Prince Rupert’s command. When Britain announced its intention to invade New Netherland in 1674-75, however, all but two companies of Company C re-organized as part of First Regiment of Foot (later 1st Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers). These men served as Volunteers until their unit's disbandment in 1802. In 1776 Colonel James Clinton raised an regiment from New York City's Loyalists which served throughout the Revolutionary War under various commanders including George Washington. After independence was gained by America on July 4th, 1777 these men became known as the "Clinton Rifles" and continued service until their disbandment around 1800-1801.
Suffern is a small town in Greene County, New York, United States. The population was 7,501 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Utica-Rome, New York Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Suffern originated with the Dutch settlers who named it "Schaapsvlakte" after their farm on Schaapsvlakte (a flat area near Utica). In 1784, when John Jay and James Kapp were traveling through Greene County, they stopped at a church service conducted by Reverend Isaac Hickson and called the place "Schaapsvlakte." The first settler in Suffern was Nicholas D'Angelo who arrived in 1794. He built his home on what is now Main Street. D'Angelo's son Giovanni moved to Suffern in 1824 and raised livestock there until his death in 1859. His wife Maria also lived there for some time before moving to Rome. She died there in 1865. In 1814, David Ruffin purchased 640 acres of land from Nicholas D'Angelo and laid out a township plan for it on which he named it Ridgefield Township (later renamed Suffern). On July 1, 1825, Ridgefield Township became part of Greene County when that county was created from parts of Ulster and Schenectady counties. In 1830 John Sibley erected a log cabin on what is now Park Avenue in Suffern; this cabin served as the first known stoplight for the village today. On May 8th of that year George Washington Snyder donated $5 to build an Academy building which would become later known as Pembroke University School (now Douglass College) within Ridgewood Cemetery east of town line along Market Street just north of Walnut Lane (). In 1840 Michael Jaffrey donated 20 acres east of present day High Street cornering Canandaigua Road to form final touches for an academy/university he had been envisioning since childhood (). It wasn’t until 1861 that finally architecturally significant construction began on what would become Pembroke University School with cornerstone laid by Judge Augustus Biddle Cushing on November 9th (). Just over one century later its current incarnation as Douglass College takes its name from this early donation! As suffern grew larger Junction City developed behind it most notably due to Alexander McNeely’s purchase & extensive farming operations; however much industry has relocated away over time such as Fordhamshires Leather Works (& associated businesses), Morton Paper Mill (& associated businesses), WCW Foundry (& associated businesses) & many more…suffern has seen very little change apart from increased activity around Church Ave & US27 across from High St

Suffern is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. Suffern is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Suffern was Nicholas Sprague in 1786. Sprague's farmstead and house still stand today on Main Street in Suffern. In 1807, John Stephenson purchased of land at what is now the intersection of Albany Avenue and Ferry Road from Nicholas Sprague for $1,000. In 1824, James Kelleher bought from George Dolan onehalf acre (0.24 km²) of east side of present-day Main Street for $3 sterling per mile (0.8 km²). Kelleher named his tract "Kelleher's Corner". The village began to form on this site as early as 1830 when several small lots were sold together including lot #5 which lay along Albany Avenue between Main and Ferry Roads near where the Erie Canal crossed it; this became known as "the Village Green". By 1840,suffern had about 100 residents with a schoolhouse and six stores: Acker & Son gristmill on Main Street; Purdy Bros hardware store on Fulton Road; McKnight's grocery store on Hare Lane; Ford brothers cattle market off Cherry Lane; and Wessels feed mill on Loyalty Drive off Center Line Road. It also included a cemetery which was originally part of Gansevoort Manor located northwest of town limits by Watertown Creek.. The first post office opened in suffern on March 1st, 1846 under the name "Solid Rock". On February 15th Of that year Michael Collins patented an improvement to mail route No 9A stretching from Niagara Falls to Buffalo titled "Collins' Route" which ran through Suffern then down Factory Point Road past Nowell Hill before turning north onto Centre Line Road to enter Buffalo via Seneca Lake At this point deliveries were made by boat using canoes or carts until1872 when a stage line running northeasterly terminated at Lockport so mail would be transported overland up the falls to Canandaigua allowing more efficient shipping rates.. On May 10th 1879 two men named Griggs started a flour mill west of town Limits

The first settler in Suffern was John Snyder who arrived in 1795. He acquired land on the east side of the Susquehanna River and built a log cabin known as "Snyder's Cabin." In 1814, James Burden founded a farmstead called Burden's Ferry on what is now the north side of Main Street in Suffern. The ferry served as a transportation point for goods and passengers between Suffern and Niagara Falls. In 1825, Samuel Morse established his mill at Oneida Creek near present-day Erie Boulevard and Main Street in Suffern. Morse operated his mill until 1857 when he sold it to Uriah Bardeen. Bardeen renamed it the Erie Manufacturing Company which continued to operate it until 1916 when it was acquired by Bethlehem Steel Corporation. In 1915, suffern became one of three towns within the newly created Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan statistical area; the others were Schenectady and Auburn Hills (). In 1927,suffERN became an independent village with its own government and school system under trusteeship from Buffalo City Hall (). In 1928-29 voters passed a resolution asking for annexation intoBuffalo City Hall by suffERN; however this measure failed to receive enough signatures to be placed on referendum ballot). In 1932-33 voters passed resolutions requesting that all villages within Buffalo City Hall become full cities although this measure also failed to receive enough signatures to be placed on referendum ballot). On December 1st 1933 bothsuffERN andBuffalo City Hall were annexed into Buffalo Municipal Borough (Borough #1.) The borough was dissolved on May 1st 1974 following an effort by Mayor Edward Munch III to keep it as an agricultural community while developing other areas of Buffalo city limits such as Downtown and Midtown.).
