Valley Stream is a town in Monroe County, New York, United States. The population was 7,905 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rochester–Monroe metropolitan area. The town was first settled in 1798 by Federalists who were opposed to the British Crown and wanted to create a new capital for New York. Valley Stream was founded on a small stream which flowed through the town. In 1827, it became a village and in 1881 it became a town. On November 14, 1968, Valley Stream merged with neighboring Auburn to form the current city of Rochester.
