The Constitution was commissioned on December 12, 1801, at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in New Hampshire. She served as flagship of Commodore James K. Polk's Squadron in the Seminole Wars. On May 25, 1804, she took part in the Battle of Pensacola Bay and participated in the capture of that city by Commodore John F. Kennedy's squadron. In 1805-06 she served as flagship of Admiral David Dixon Porter's Expedition against Spanish Honduras and during her tour made 14 voyages with distinction from February 26th to November 30th inclusive transporting over 2,500 troops and supplies across the Isthmus Of Panama
Boone is a small town in North Carolina, located about 25 miles north of Raleigh. The population was 3,253 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Raleigh–Durham metropolitan area and is bordered by Durham to the east, Wake County to the south, and Dare County to the west. The first white resident of Boone was David Boone in 1795. In 1819, John Cavenagh settled a grant on what is now known as Maple Ridge Road. By 1838, there were over eighty residents in Boone. The community grew rapidly due to its location close to new transportation connections and its access to rich agricultural land. In 1865, Confederate General Robert E Lee made his headquarters in Boone while commandeering supplies from Union forces stationed near Chapel Hill. More than one hundred citizens were killed or wounded during this time period as a result of Confederate efforts to control this important military installation. In 1887, Boone became part of Vance County when that county was created from parts of Johnston and Orange counties. This change resulted in increased opportunities for farming and industry within the town limits which led to rapid growth throughout much of the 20th century; however, some communities such as Pineville experienced slower growth rates due their proximity to larger cities or rural areas with more available resources. Boone is a town in Durham County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Durham County and part of the Raleigh–Durham metropolitan area. The first settler in Boone was George Washington Boone in 1811. He and his family moved from Virginia to what is now western McDowell County in 1814. In 1819, Boone married Mary Aiken (1810-1877), daughter of Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest (1794-1865). They had six children: George Washington (1820-1901), Martha Ballard (1822-1900), James Monroe Boone (1824-1900), John Randolph Knox (1827-1913), and Andrew Jackson Boone (1829-1920). George Washington's older brother James Monroe also lived in Boone for a time. In 1865, following the American Civil War, General Forrest surrendered at Appomattox Court House without any battles or combat; he died two years later at age 93 years old. For many years after his death, Forrest's remains were stored near Fort Mitchell until they were finally moved to their final resting place at Rocky Mount National Military Park on April 6th, 1984
