The Coast Guard Auxiliary in Cornelius, North Carolina has been providing operational support to local law enforcement for over sixty years. The Auxiliary was organized on November 1, 1938 and under the name of the Sheriff's Association of North Carolina. On May 15, 1951, the Auxiliary changed its name to the Coast Guard Auxiliary of North Carolina. The organization currently operates as a volunteer force with Support Squadron Fourteen Five One (CSSF-14) providing Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion located at Wilmington Harbor. The Coast Guard Auxiliary offers a wide range of gift items to commemorate service or special occasions. Many items are retired or donated by previous members who have passed away. A few examples include mementos from various deployments such as hats, buttons, medals and more;embroideredogi suits for officers; lifejackets for firefighters; dogs tags and other identification tags;and more! Cornelius is a small town in Duplin County, North Carolina. The population was 976 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Durham, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by Cornelius and his wife Martha on May 10, 1807 as a result of land grants from Governor Tryon. The first post office was established in 1808. Cornelius has a rich history that can be seen in its architecture, literature and culture. Its citizens have been responsible for many important moments in their community including the founding of theDuplin County Courthouse and Village Hall, as well as numerous other civic accomplishments. In addition to its cultural attractions, Cornelius offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities such as fishing, golfing and horseback riding.

Cornelius was a small town in North Carolina during the late 1800s. It was one of the many towns which were destroyed by the American Civil War. Cornelius was known for its churches, mills, and other important infrastructure. The town was also home to several notable families including the Roosevelts and McCoys. The town began as a small settlement on the banks of the James River in 1827. The community grew rapidly after it became associated with Methodism and other religious denominations. In 1872, Cornelius became an incorporated village with a population of around 100 people. The following year, it merged with nearby Fort Bragg to form a larger municipality called Cornelius-Fort Bragg. During World War II, Cornelius played an important role in supporting Allied forces in Europe. The town hosted numerous military installations such as Naval Air Station Cecil Field and Marine Barracks at Southport before being evacuated during the war. After the war, parts of Cornelius resumed their normal activities but most residents left for better opportunities outside of North Carolina due to strong economic competition from neighboring states during post-war times. Today, much of what once made up Cornelius is gone but its history remains significant for its role in helping to shape North Carolina's modern day landscape.
Cornelius was founded in 1751 by Cornelius Wiggins. It was a post office from 1768 to 1821. The town was named for General James Cornelius, who fought in the American Revolution.
