After Reconstruction ended following the Civil War (1861-1865), goldmining resumed as a major industry in North Carolina due to new discoveries on both sides of the Susquehanna River. This growth led to increased demand for goods produced by local miners and entrepreneurs alike – including John D’Angelo Stroud who founded Brownson & Stroud Mining Company which became one of America’s largest copper mining companies during its early years thanks to its investments in Silver Spring Creek Mine near Raleigh).
